1985.0. "EDT Emulation" by FSDEV1::JBERNARD () Mon Dec 12 1988 11:34
I have recently received an EDT configuration file for Rick Stiles UEdit
editor. This config file was created by Kent McPherson and was also
posted on Plink. This was sent directly to me by Kent, and I am feeding back
all changes to him, since he is managing all the rev levels.
There were several problems with this EDT emulation, one of which was the fact
that it only supported the A1000 keyboard. The other, for you MACHII users,
was the fact that it interfered with the function or hot keys.
I have rewritten and reconfigured these Config files for the A500/2000, using
the standard EDT conventions as much as possible. The main intent was to get
as close to the EDT editing keypad as possible, to make transition back and
forth from VAX to Amy as transparent as possible.
The one aspect of EDT that is not implemented is command mode, (GOLD) kp7.
I used some of SEDT's conventions here instead, such as (GOLD)F, (GOLD)W,
(GOLD)X, etc., and some commands are specific to this implementation. Most
commands are also available on Pull Down menus, and you can also get an
ARP file requester as well as normal string input to select a file to insert,
open, etc.. all standard configurable features of UEdit.
These configuration files were written for UEdit V2.4f or greater, and will
work on the Shareware version. From the looks of this editor, I believe you
could configure the editor to emulate almost any function desired. It is well
worth the price for the full blown version. The shareware version does not
allow you to save configuration changes.
If anyone is interested in these config files, I'll make an arc file and
upload them. I have also made a kepad and command layout. This is currently
in postscript format.
The config files are currently at rev level 0.9a-2 (just for tracking
purposes). I'm currently bouncing my key assignments off of the EDT manual,
the SEDT manual, and MACHII. Once I resolve as many conflicts as possible,
I'll be releasing version 0.9b of the config files. This will be in about
a week or so. If anyone wants a disk with UEdit and these config files,
send me mail or give me a call. The only UEdit I can send out is the Shareware
version.
Any suggestions or help will be appreciated. We should be able to make this
editor emulate EDT/SEDT quite closely. It's already half there.

The following files are available on FSDEV1::Disk$User1:[JBERNARD.AMIGA]
The following file is in BINARY format:
DATAX. Data! file compiled version of all the Config! files
Use this file with the shareware version
of UEdit.
The following files are in TEXT format:
CONFIGX. Config! file Config file and standard Uedit and menu stuff
CONFIGXK. Config!K file (keypad mappings)
CONFIGXM. Config!M file (Misc commands)
CONFIGXS. Config!S file (Unchanged from distribution version)
EDTHELPX. EDThelp! file one of the help files
HELPX. Help! the other one. These are still being worked on
EDTKEYS.DOC A file keeping track of the key mappings as I change them.
This helps keep things from getting out of hand.
MENU.DOC An excerpt from Config!. I match this against EDTKEYS.doc
to keep track of what have put in the menu. It's shorter
to print out than the whole Config! file.
*** NOTE *** The above Config! files are intended to compile WITHOUT the
Config!P and Config!R files. I haven't resolved all the
key mapping conflicts within these files yet.
