I have a friend who is having a strange problem in trying to add a hard disk to his 2000. His system has a 2MG Star Board form Microbotics. Every time he tries to put the controller in, the system won't even boot. He has tried both the Amiga hard card and a SCSI Card from Pacific Peripherals. Neither board was hooked to anything just sitting in the slot. Has anyone else encountered this or can anyone shed some light on this before my friend goes even more bananas? Thanks in advance. -rick

1924.1 | incompatibility? | MQOFS::DESROSIERS | Tout est possible | Thu Dec 01 1988 11:10 | 10 |
If the HD controller cards have autoboot proms, and the 2000 has kickstart 1.2, there could be a conflict, at least that's what happened when I put a 2090A in my 2000 with 1.2 KS. Another thing to try is to insert a bootable floppy in DF0 before powering up, see if it comes up then, as the HD might not be bootable. Jean
1924.2 | Old Starboard Incompatibility | HBO::SWARTZ | Fri Dec 02 1988 10:34 | 13
I was up at System Eyes last night and since I've been contemplating some extended memory to add to my 2000, I asked the guy specifically about compatability with the Microbotics Star Board. He informed me that the old Microbotics boards are incompatible with most controllers. The newer Starboards have been modified to eliminate the incompatibility. I asked if there was an upgrade for the old boards and he suggested to contact Microbotics to do the upgrade. I think he said an adapter was required. BTW: While I was there he received a call from one of his distributors who told him that TV Sports Football was shipping out tomorrow which means its on the road today. |
