| Well, first off, if you copy someone's MS-DOS disk, you are in
violation of federal copyright laws.
You should be able to purchase MS-DOS V3.3 from most any computer
shop. Dunno what the price is today.

1906.3 | How do I get 80 tracks ? | AYOV28::ATHOMSON | C'mon, git aff! /The Kelty Clippie | Tue Dec 06 1988 05:21 | 16 |

On a similar topic, (I wasn't wanting to "waste" another note on
MS-POX). Does anyone know the MS-POX command to format a 3 disk
to 80 tracks ? I've tried :-
FORMAT B: /1 Gives me 160k (single side 8 sectors/track 40 tracks)
FORMAT B: /4 Gives me 320k (double " " " " " " )
FORMAT B: /8 Gives me 360k ( " " 9 " " " " )
FORMAT B: /16 Gives me "invalid parameter"
FORMAT B: (default) gives me the same as the /8 - 360k
Anyone know what I'm missing ? (BTW my MS-POX disks are 720k so
it's not as though the system doesn't know about 80 track disks)

1906.4 | try 3.2 | PANIC::SHORT | Peter Short, UK, A500 | Fri Feb 17 1989 11:52 | 15 |
| I had this problem a while ago - I also haven't looked in this notes
file for months.
You need to change a parameter in the CONFIG.SYS file, its something
like DRVPARAM. BUT, it doesn't work in MS-DOS V3.3, try using V3.2
(I think its that way round). After this you should be able to use
one of the FORMAT commands to do the actual work.
As I only had access to V3.3, I resorted to formatting the disks
on a clone (hiss...)
Hope this helps

| re : .4
Peter, you can format a 720K using MS-dos 3.3.
In your config.sys you have to install driver.sys, using
some parameters. I forgot the exact command, but if
you want I can verify and let you know. I have been
using the virtual drives that the driver creates.
The parameters are the same as the drvparams in 3.2.
i.e. if you use 2 drives, if you add 2 drivers.sys, you
will end up with 4 drives. A and C being the same physical
drive, but A at 360K and C: at 720K. The same goes with
drives B and D:
You are right, Drvparam does not exist any more with 3.3.
but was replaced by that driver.
