1899.0. "what do i need to do the job?" by FSCORE::KAYE (Be seeing you) Tue Nov 22 1988 08:41

I don't have an Amiga yet, but have been looking for the past 8
months for a used one with no luck, so it looks like i may have
to break done and get a new one.
Here is what i want to do with it...

    Video
    	- editing 8mm videotape to Beta
    	- adding titles
    	- overlaying
    	- adding graphics

    Publishing
    	- ability to add pictures

    Games (of course)

    Database
    	- cross-reference of videotape footage

    Programming
    	- a little C

What kind of configuration should i be looking at?

OK - here is what i have come up with...

    Amiga 2000 - for expandability
    8M memory board - 2M populated (+$999)
    40M hard disk
    NEC multisync II (+$550)
    Supergen (+$1200)

However, this amounts to ~CAN$6800 which is a bit too rich for my
blood at the moment. I would like to get it down to about $4000-5000
for now and add the rest later.
Should i skip the hard drive and get another floppy?
What about a regular monitor? (I hate to get the regular monitor
now and then have to sell it to upgrade later).
Can i live with 1M of memory for a while (and hope that the price
    of the 1M chips drop)?

I feel that this really depends on how serious you are and how long
you're going to make use of this stuff !!!

I would love to have everything you mentioned so I can really play!
But that the key word..."play"! I just can't justify that much on
    more playthings.

However, assuming that this is a worthwhile investment for you,
I would skip the memory for now,get the hard drive, skip the floppy,
concider a lower priced genlock, keep the monitor.

All this talk around xmas time makes me feel like playing Santa
    for yours truly!

What you need is "MediaPhile" It is an integrated system that links
your Amiga (when you get one) to 8mm or Beta or VHS editing decks.
They also have their own database program for logging footage.

I don't have the address today. I'll post it tomorrow.

"MEDIAPHILE" is a media production, database and automatic playback
system that gives complete computer control over video decks,
camcorders and other audio-visual equipment. Use MediaPhile to:

-Edit video tape, add special effects, overlay computer graphics
    on video, and dub audio.

-Record a database of up to 24 hours (36 albums) of digital stereo
sound or 4 hours of video on one small 8 mm cassette.

-Playback lists of thousands of audio and video selections
automatically from one or two decks. One dick seeks the start of
the next selection while the other plays.

-Record a dabase of crystal clear freeze-frame images and playback
a slide show of your transferred prints and slides or digitized
    images.

-Record single frame animation images automatically.

Please, I do not own any of this. I don't know much of anything
about it. This was taken from their literature. Please contact
them for more info. They will give you VERY detailed info.
