1880.0. "F-18 sounds breaking up - help!" by RBW::WICKERT (MAA DIS Consultant) Mon Nov 14 1988 23:02

    Well, now that I'm in my new house I have room for a small stereo
    setup next to my Amiga. Sure wish I could have done it before!!

    I tried running F-18 Interceptor and am having some problems that
    I wonder if anyone else does. When you run the throttle up the engine
    sounds are really impressive but as soon as you hit afterburners
    the sound breaks up BADLY! Same thing happens when I move to the
    outside view no matter what the throttle setting.

    Has anyone else had these problems while running F-18 and using
    a amp and speakers/headphones as audio output? I'd really like to
    know if I have a audio chip problem with my A2000...

    Thanks,
    Ray

1880.1Could be normalVTHRAX::KIPTue Nov 15 1988 09:017
    This may be normal. I've noticed with this game that the sound
    of the engine(s) becomes "gravelly" when the afterburners are on;
    I'm not a pilot, but I suspect this may be what the afterburners
    really sound like.

    Then again, the added volume of the afterburners may be overdriving
    your amp's input stages; which of its inputs are you using?

    Do you have 1M or 512K ram. I don't think you get full sound if
    you have 512K.

    I tend to think .1 is on the right track. When you go from full
    throttle to afterburners, the volume increases signifigantly...
    doubles, even. Likewise, anytime you go to an outside view, the
    volume level jumps. Maybe some link in your sound setup is getting
    overloaded.

    Is it possible that the program has gone over Amiga's 8 (or 14,
    depends on how it is programmed) bit dynamic range? Does the sound
    output from this game seem much louder than most other programs
    that have sound?

1880.5sounds OK on my systemSAUTER::SAUTERJohn SauterFri Nov 18 1988 16:403
    It sounds fine when I run it. I also suspect the problem is outboard
    of the Amiga, in the amplifier chain somewhere.

    Thanks John, just what I needed to hear. It's good to hear someone
    that doesn't have any problems...

    I'll try some things and get back to you...
