1857.0. "Spirit ST506 Hard disk adapter?" by ROMULN::MYEE (Boycott Styrofoam cups, save the ozone.) Mon Nov 07 1988 13:09

I'm thinking about hooking up a RD31 (ST225) to my Amiga 500. The
route I thinking of is to use the Spirit ST506 adapter for the Amiga
    500. Does anyone have any experience with one of these? Is this
the best way to hook up a ST506 type drive to an Amiga 500? Do
I need anything more than a hard disk and the Spirit ST506 adapter
to get a running system? Does the power supply come with the Spirit
    ST506 adapter?

    thanks,

    _Mike

Nope. As with any of the hard disk adapters for the A500 it will have
to be externally powered. This is usually done by routing some power
from the hard disk enclosure to the (in this case) HD-506. The guy
at Spirit I talked to said it required +12 and +5.

To power the ST225 you will need some sort of power supply anyway,
once you have that it is fairly straight forward to run the power
along with the ribbon cables from the drive to the HD-506 which
attaches to the left hand side of the A500.

I haven't actually done this but had given serious thought before
ordering an A2000 (still waiting on UPS from Philly). It would not be
to hard to build a box or buy a box (check the Computer Shopper for
boxes sold for exactly this purpose) and do this.

Spirit had packages that included the Adapter, Enclosure, (including
the Power supply) and the Disk. I'm sure thay would do a deal for the
Adapter and the Enclosure with cables and such.

My hard disk upgrade has been sidetracked by an A500 to A2000 upgrade,
but in the long run, I am looking at a simpler setup.

                Regards.... Clint
