disks if they didn't want them to be seen, now would they? Am I missing
some crucial piece of data here or what? It would be like making
people pay for TV advertisements if they weren't freely distributible. :-)

| I have uploaded the Dragon's Lair demo. Find it at
csc32::disk1:[j_parsons.amiga]dragon.wrp
Because the file is so large I can only leave it up for a week or
so. The demo will run on a 1 meg Amiga but needs 1.5 meg to have
sound and graphics.

There are two disks worth of data here. I used TRACKER to break
them down, and then arc'ed the resulting file for compression.
The arc files are:
WANIM0A.ARC - contains the file wanim0.0-39
WANIM0B.ARC - contains the file wanim0.40-79
WANIM1A.ARC - contains the file wanim1.0-39
WANIM1B.ARC - contains the file wanim1.40-79
To restore these:
o download the arc files
o de'arc the files (if you've got the memory, de arc them
on a ram disk!) you may have to play games with multiple
disks.
o the resulting files are in the form <volume name>.<tracks>
o the format for restoring a disk with TRACKER is:
TRACKER WRITE <starting track> <ending track> <filename>
If you don't have TRACKER.ARC, there is a note somewhere
posting the location.
This demo requires more than 512K. I think it requires 1.5M. I'll
re-run it tonight to see if it has a memory requirement anywhere
that can be seen.
These files are on the West coast (Santa Clara, California). If
there is someone on the East coast who would like to archive them
for general accessing, feel free.

file and then use the vms version of arc to decompress it. I had
no problems. I'll start another upload sometime this evening, unless
someone reports that they've been able to download it (you said
WALKER0A.ARC, i assume you mean WANIM0A.ARC)
I'll let you know when its there.

I copied the entire demo disk from my dealer over the weekend.
I still can't believe this is for real. I suspect the real game
will involve a minute or more of disk gronking and then maybe thirty
seconds or so of animation.
I hope I'm wrong. If ReadySoft has figured out a radical new
compression/animation technique, they could turn the animation market
on it's ear. But this demo is simply too good to be for real.

1846.14 | Time for sneakernet? | LDP::MCCARTHY | Sizzling the Pits | Sun Nov 06 1988 20:42 | 11 |
| Is it possible to download the Dragon's Lair Demo if you don't
have over 1 meg? I got about 3/4 of it across before running
out of memory. I copied what I had to disk, and got a bit more
across before running out of space on the disk. When warping, I
get to track 75 and then end on a CRC error.
I copied the file and downloaded it with zmodem. Does one need
to CVTARC it?
Help?

I don't know whether there would be a way to dl it or not without
1 meg, but I'm 99.9% sure it won't run on a machine without at least
1 meg. It's really not happy unless it has 1.5 meg (no sound on
a 1 meg machine).

compression.

I found the file trackd.arc which I beleive is the tracker demo.
Don't forget to shorten file names when searching the tape directories
because some of the stuff we use (ie kermit, xmodem) seems to not
like long file names. I will download this tonight and let you
know if it is the utility we are looking for.
Hope this helps.

1846.25 | Yes, you can run WALKER DEMO on 1MB , but .. | CESARE::ZABOT | Marco Zabot-Adv.Tech.mgr-Turin ACT | Sun Nov 13 1988 16:18 | 9 |
| Yes. If you have "The Director" you can run a piece at a time of
the Demo instead of linking them all together.
If noone has it on that side of the pond, let me know and I'll
do it for you.
The Demo is composed of 6 ANIM ( imlogo0-1, walk0-3). Run them using
a the PLAYANIM script that is in the directory LIBRARY of the Director.
If you need more info, let me know.

1846.27 | Mini-WALKER DEMO | CESARE::ZABOT | Marco Zabot-Adv.Tech.mgr-Turin ACT | Mon Nov 14 1988 17:46 | 45 |
| Gentlemen,
here is a sample of how to see a piece of WALKER DEMO
on a mini-AMIGA.
Follow this procedure.
Load the last part of this message into your Amiga RAM.
Call this file FOO.UU ( use your preferred tool to download)
>cd ram:
>uudecode foo.uu
>list
foo.uu ....
1m-1.film ....
>wanim0:projector 1m-1.film
follow the inbstruction of Amiga DOS
( mount wanim1)....
This implies that you have already the demo disks.
It is a short example of WALKER DEMO.
Director is a neat piece of software ( but for rel 2.0
we want more ....< place you request here>...)
Enjoy it.
marco
PS. For those who don't have UUDECODE you can find 1m-1.film
on cesare::eng_area:[zabot.amiga] for a few days.
