1843.2 | I need more room!!!!! | RDCV01::RANDREWS | I have a cunning plan | Wed Nov 02 1988 00:21 | 26 |
| Well, our second (third) one is here at work. I'm waiting for #'s
4&5 (2000's) to arrive. WAIT let me explain. I have a friend who
uses them in his business. He is planning on using Digi-view to
digitize stuff for some project or another. So he brought all his
equipment down for me to use and figure out. I said sure why not.
Then, we picked up our 2'nd (third total) at a sale at a dealer.
My fiance has it on her computer desk. I've got mine on my computer
desk, my friends is here at work running Mike's Wheat 220 emulator
as a terminal. Numbers 4 & 5 are supposed to be coming down soon.
See when The Software Hut had the trade in deal, I talked my friend
into trading his 1000 in for the 2000, and I did the same with mine.
Unfortunately, they would only ship to one address, and he lives
in southern wisconsin, (not too far from me in Chicagoland, but
far enough) I still haven't gotten my 2000 yet.
Sooner or later, I will have to return his two machines (a 1000
and a 2000) and be left with three (two 1000's and a 2000).
I brought it to work so I can easily copy stuff from and to the
net instead of tying up the phone lines. That and wheat is a wonderful
terminal emulator. I use AZComm to copy stuff from the Vax to the
1000, and just carry the disk's home.

Multiprocessing. Why limit your flashing fingers to just one Amiga?
I use my A1000 for compiling, and the A2000 for testing. That way
I get "protected mode" multitasking without getting a MMU :-)
It's also good for dedicating one to downloading while you test
new pd toys on the other.
there also those games that can use modems (use a null modem cable
between the systems, I haven't tried that yet)
another possibility is quadraphonic sound, you now have 4 separate
channels to play with, assuming you have a stereo that can do it.

re. .4 - Thanks. I picked up the Enhancer package and the 1000 is
up and running.
re .5 - you mean I don't have to sit around twiddling my thumbs
while I wait for a download.!! why didnt I think of that?
Now that I think of it... might make sense to have 3.

While I do downloads, I compile C programs or play Shanghai or something.
I don't need two Amiga do do this.

| re: .7
it's the "or something". My favorite is forgetting to do a
STACK 10000 before running SHAR to unpack something from usenet.
SHAR is also picky about some of the unix shar commands.
It Gurus instead of exiting with an error. Not fun if you are
in the middle of a large download. Testing the new programs you've
just downloaded is also not a good idea. If all programs were
bug free and well written, there wouldn't be any problem. But
just ask yourself, "do you feel lucky?" :-)
So that limits you to running the bug free programs. There is only
one way to be sure, try it.

Early in the morning?
You hook it up with an RS232 cable to the other one and teach your wife
combat flying skills. I suppose their was no monitor supplied, doesnt
matter use a TV.

Ergonomic, big, aesthetic, but definitely not funny looking.

Besides aeronautical gymnastics, I guess an A1000 at work to get
all that PD S/W would be useful. Just watch the voltage on the cables.
How your electronics? What about a 68000 coprocessor for your 68000
(Dumb? Yes, I know) with 512K caching buffer, extra disk drive.
See what they are currently selling for in the paper, get something
for your A500.
