1772.1 | Store-Pick one.....A2000 very reliable! | ANT::GERBER | Robert Gerber | Thu Oct 13 1988 10:06 | 10 |
| In terms of prices...OMNITEK-Tewksbury Ma & Saelm NH may have better
prices, and if you get it in Salem you will save MA sales tax.
In terms of support...The Memory Location is by far the better of
the two, and there prices are still pretty good. (If I were to
get a second machine, I would get it from TML).
I have an A2000. The main problem with the A2000's is the power
supply fan: they sometimes start to make a lot of noise. This happened
more with the older units. Other than that from what I have noticed
the A2000 is a very sturdy machine.

1772.2 | A500 price at TML | ANT::GERBER | Robert Gerber | Thu Oct 13 1988 10:09 | 8 |
| One more thing...last time I check The Memory Location had an A500
package: A500 Amiga
A2084 Monitor
A1010 External 3" Floppy
A501(?) 512K Expansion ram and clock
All for $1,200.00 - This may be their current price. (And of course
$60 for the Duke and some more for blank floppies...etc...)

1772.3 | new NH store | SAUTER::SAUTER | John Sauter | Thu Oct 13 1988 11:15 | 6 |
| Another place to save MA sales tax is the new Amiga dealer at
Pennachuck Square in Merrimack, NH, on route 101A. I haven't been
in there yet, but my son claims they have an A2000 on display.
They're a new store, so they may be willing to bargain to build
a customer base.

Just as an aside, I saw an appeal on PLINK last night from Computerland
for trained Amiga salespersons.
This is interesting because I bought my A1000 from Computerland
in Worcester, MA in October '85. A year later, at the peak of CBM's
financial problems, Computerland dropped the machine. Now that
Amigas are selling well, perhaps they're interested again.
Sorry for the digression, just thought it might be of interest.

| What is the difference between the 2084 monitor and the original Amiga monitor?
Are mail order prices of the Amiga good enough to justify going mail order
rather than going to a local dealer?

| re: Computerland
You don't suppose Max Toy has been busy convincing them that the
A2000 is a business computer?
re: reliability of A2000
My A2000 has worked great from day one. The only problem was that
a pin the joystick port wasn't seated properly, easy to fix. And
the clock was tuned to run fast, adjustable by a pot.
I'd recommend the Salem Omnitek.

Re: Max Toy...
Good observation, Dave. I suspect that Max has been doing exactly
that. I'm going to quiz my brother-in-law, who is Apple's Businessland
Corporate Account Manager to see if CBM has been courting them.
In a way, I'd be glad to see Amigas in the major outlets. On the
other hand, it's been kind of neat to shop in the offbeat places,
like Moe's. Kind of like being a Christian during the Roman
persecution.

1772.8 | Mail Order --- Caveat Emptor | ANT::GERBER | Robert Gerber | Fri Oct 14 1988 12:18 | 8 |
| In regards to mail order places...If you buy your machine from some
(not all are like this) of them, you have to return it to them for
warrenty repair. The only mail order places I know of that do not
suffer these problems are ones that have stores also. Then again,
watch for shipping charges...they can be enough to not make mail
order a good deal.
