1746.1 | it really works.. | CGOU01::OAKLEY | What am I doing here... | Tue Oct 18 1988 20:37 | 22 |

Using John's instructions, this past weekend I was able to put together
my very own generic Digi-Droid.
Many thanks John, it works great and I can highly recommend this
project to anyone with a Digi-View for minimum effort digitizing.
BTW: I have just picked up an A2000 and I was wondering if anyone
knows what is needed to make the Digi-View work with the 2000.
I tried putting together a male-male pass-through cable but all
I got was 'no video signal present'. So I'm looking for suggestions
on what to try, other than buying the Newtek adaptor (unless absolutly
necessary).
BTW2: It would seem that the color separator from Newtek and Demo
Reel #2 won't be available until the new year.
thanks

1746.2 | Get a "gender changer". | SUBSYS::BUSCH | Dave Busch at NKS1-2 | Wed Oct 19 1988 13:56 | 24 |

I just went through what you described. I tried to make a straight through male-
to-male in both flavors (pin 1 to pin 1 and pin 1 to pin 13) but neither worked.
I looked inside the "gender changer" made by NewTek and indeed, there are a
number of components inside, including resistors, caps, an inductor and a mini-
dip (probably a level shifter), as well as some crossed over wires. I could
probably copy the circuit but for about $20 I'll opt for buying one.
Regarding the Digi Droid, I called up Barbizon Light in Woburn and they sent me
a bunch of sample swatch books of colored gels/filters used in stage production
and photo work. One of the sets of samples was from a company in England called
Lee. It had many clean (non-wavy) colored filter samples, some of which worked
nicely as a substitute for the color wheel from DigiView. They can be had in
(roughly) 20" by 24" sheets for about $4 - $5 a piece. At least that's the price
they quoted me on the phone.
One question I have regarding DigiView. Is there any way I can specify (in B&W
for example) that the colors used in the palette are in a sequential order of
increasing brightness rather than in a checkerboard pattern. The reason I ask is
that I would like to be able to use the "spread" feature of D-Paint II to re-
assign colors to those generated by DigiView.

| Deluxe PhotoLab has a module called Colors. It allows you to modify
pictures. Files are easily re-tinted, regardless of how the palette
is set up. Bringing a picture into Digi-Paint and retouching it
would do the same thing. The only problem with that is that it
will then become a HAM mode picture.

1746.4 | you mean I can't use my Digi-Octopus | CGFSV2::OAKLEY | BCNU2 | Thu Oct 20 1988 12:09 | 12 |
| Thanks for the information on the gender bender from Newtek, guess
I'll have to break down and do it the easy way.
As for sorting colors, I don't beleive that can be done in DigiView
(unless you wanted to remap the palette yourself) but Pixmate has
just that function available and allows you the choice of sort in
increasing or decreasing intensity.

| This is like, really freaky. I JUST tried to grab the files at
the old location, and found that I couldn't. I came back to check
the notes file again, and found that 10 minutes before I checked
for the files, my question as to where they went had been answered.
Too heavy!
