Re. -1 (yes again)
I put the parts that I had together and un-zoo'ed it. Of course
I recieved an error message and zoo aborted. But, it looks as if
the binaries are there and just part of the sources are missing.
Unfornately I have not had the time to try it out yet, I hope to
this week.
What has been some other experience with dnet? Is it reliable (unlike
my spelling :) ?

1740.7 | It does work!! | TIMA1::GUEST | | Wed Oct 19 1988 09:43 | 26 |
| Hi,
I've used it and I also missed the fourth part.
Any way the binary for the amiga side are intact and it works fine.
I suppose only part of amiga side sources are missed, but they can
be retreived looking in the unix side sources, with some liitle
work of course :-)
Any way what it does is a sort of multi-session link between an amiga
and a u***x cpu over asynchronous serial line.
In other words you can perform both way file transfers and remote
terminal sessions in the same time .
Of course more session you have at one time worse performance you
have per single session.
I tried all of this and it worked.
The only thing I was not able to do is to initiate a session from
the U***X side. (I'm not too familiar with this O.S. and I'm not
able to understand some points in the docs).

1740.8 | Host side porting may be difficult | NAC::PLOUFF | Cider Season Has Begun | Wed Oct 19 1988 10:14 | 11 |
| The Unix side of DNET may be more difficult to recover. It was
sent out as a 'tar' format file, which is a sort of Unix saveset,
and the VMS 'untar' program I located doesn't understand it. However,
you can pick apart the tar file manually with a text editor.
Now comes the hard part. If you want to use the Unix side on any
minicomputer, it contains some specific Berkeley 4.3-isms. Hardest
one to translate may be 'sockets,' one way to communicate between
processes. Anybody who tries a VMS port, good luck!
