This sort of goes back to the discussion of using a 2000 keyboard for the 1000. If the only difference is the port compatibility, I can fix that. After all, a soldering iron isn't that difficult to use, but what I want to know is this: Does the 2000 keyboard clock its key sequences to the Amiga the same way the 1000 does? The 1000 sends all keys to the Amiga serially. Does the 2000 do this as well? If it does, then are the same chips used for the process? What this all boils down to is, if the only differences in the 2000 and 1000 keyboard are in the connecting cables, then I should be able to make an adapter for it. If enough people are interested in it, the next time I'm in Westchester, I can run by Commodore, and see if they'll give us a load of keyboards for less than the current $125 price. Any hints or suggestions? Anyone even interested?

1690.1 | I've been tempted but $125... | BAGELS::BRANNON | Dave Brannon | Thu Sep 15 1988 15:27 | 12 |
I'm interested, depends on how much they want for the keyboard. According to the comments on usenet from the CBM hardware folks, it really is just a matter of port compatibility. Shouldn't even need a soldering iron, just get an ibmpc keyboard cable extender, chop off one end, and put a phone plug connector on it (might want the extra length since the 2000 keyboard plugs into the front instead of the back. Just make sure you have wired it correctly. -Dave

re .1 OK, Dave. I'll test it on my own computer before I start giving the adapters and all to other people. I just hope I can find a decent price on the Keyboards. Because, I'm NOT going to pay $125. ANY OTHER TAKERS OUT THERE???? Chris
1690.3 | 2000 keyboard does work on 1000 | COORS::M_BLESSING | Wed Jan 18 1989 23:07 | 5
Someone I know just got a 2000 keyboard for their 1000. Someone in their area was making adapters. It is just a matter of wiring the pins together correctly. The keyboard works fine and he hasn't had any compatiblity problems. I think he got the keyboard for about $112. |
