1675.0. "Conman doesn't work" by JGO::CHAPMAN () Fri Sep 09 1988 07:16

I have been trying to get conman (from the FF disks) to work. I have probably
missed something simple since I am only recently trying to experiment with
some PD stuff. I have

- copied the library file to the libs: directory and renamed it as instructed

- copied the handler to the Devs: directory and renamed it as instructed

- copied the file conman (and setcman) to C: (in Ram:)

When I run C:CONMAN, I get the advertisement OK, (no warning about files
missing), but there is no effect whatsoever!

Any suggestions very gratefully received.

1675.1Conman won't affect the active window...LEDS::ACCIARDIHeisenberg may have slept hereFri Sep 09 1988 08:1210

    Just a guess, but I believe that Conman only beco~rmes active in
    the NEXT CLI window open, not the current one. I just insert

    Conman >NIL: -c -q

    in my startup-sequence and then open a new CLI window right before
    LOADWB command.

    THIS STARTUP-SEQUENCE WORKS GREAT FOR ME

    ConMan -c -q

    ; These lines should be at the end of your startup-sequence
    NEWCLI "CON:0/11/640/189/Amiga CLI"
    ENDCLI > nil:

    ; That creates a new full-size CLI window and also gets rid of the
    ; old one.
1675.3Yup, It's a PATCH!RAVEN1::EVERHARTMon Sep 12 1988 17:3015
    	Yes, these answers are definitely correct. Conman is a patch
    that writes over the old console device handling routine. In fact,
    I don't even think you have to RUN it. Since it is a patch, it
    doesn't come into effect until the routine that it patched is called
    again. Opening up the next CLI window should create some startling
    results for you. Like, command history for starters. Try typing:
    NEWCLI CON:0/10/520/190/AmigaDOS/n To see a "borderless" DOS
    window.

    Good luck with it. I find CONMAN to be an excellent program.

1675.4Thanks - it works!JGO::CHAPMANTue Sep 13 1988 04:218

    Thanks, that was the answer. It works in a new window.

    I agree - a very useful program. I love the function key window
    controls too.

    By the way the new Dillon Shell is out (V2.10). I have it installed,
    and it works terrific (as always) with ConMan.
