| I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A PROGRAM BY THE NAME OF DOS-2-DOS THAT
DOES WHAT YOU REQUEST. IT'S MAIN PURPOSE WAS TO CONVERT MS-DOS FORMAT
STUFF TO THE AMIGA. THE PROGRAM, BY THE WAY, RUNS ON THE AMIGA.

1669.2 | Get a terminal emulator program | NACAD::W_PLOUFF | Beautiful downtown Littleton | Wed Sep 07 1988 10:36 | 16 |
| The easiest way for your friend to succeed is to find a terminal
emulator program already on an Amiga disk. To do this he must find
a friend who has one, buy a commercial program or find a public
domain disk, such as the 'Fred Fish' series. This 'bootstrap' problem
is common to almost every new Amiga owner.
I suggest that you read through some of the magazines and call or
visit some of the local Amiga computer stores. A public domain
disk should cost no more than about $7 (DM 18?), and a commercial
terminal emulator program no more than about $70.
Then you can connect your computers by RS-232 and transfer files
using the Kermit or XModem protocol. Sorry, if you were in the
States, I and many other fellows would just send you a disk.

| The latest version of DOS-2-DOS will read/write/format ATARI ST
GEM formatted disks on the AMIGA, also does the same for IBM PC
disks. I believe it costs about $50, there are ads for it in the
back of AmigaWorld.
It can't read any of the fancy ST formats like TWISTER, etc. Works
fine for floppy to floppy exchanges with ST owners, I've used it
to trade IFF files for DEGAS files with an ST owner. Seems there
isn't anything on the ST that can read an Amiga floppy :-)

Hi All,
thanks very much for your quick and interesting replies.
It would be great (not to say very convenient), if you could point
to a Public Domian Library or store which has PD's for the Amiga
and Atari ST near Bedfort. The reason is, that one of y mates is
for the next fortnight there, for a meeting, about the LPS40-E I
guess. He could get some Amiga SW as well as he has to get
Atari ST Software (Minix) allready.
With binary regards
George
PS. Jeff, I can't fly, because I served 10 years in the navy.
If you know about a submarine or destroyer simulation let
me know.

There are several places on the NET that have PD. To name a few:
mvcad3::user0:[Amiga.FFxxx]
COOKIE::DISK$GZ_2:[WECKER.AMIGA]
ROZETT::AMIGA:
PAULY"AMIGA"::
OASIS2""::HSC000$DUA7:[BERNARD.AMIGA]
WJG::AMIGA:
(If I've disclosed locations which the owners would rather not be made public,
please reply and blast me for it!)
As far as getting disks, stop by an Amiga dealer with lots of blank floppies.
Most dealers will let you copy PD disks for a very small fee.
