1668.0. "AMIGA TRADE UP OFFER!!!" by CGHUB::NYE () Tue Sep 06 1988 20:25
THIS IS HOT OFF THE USENET
If this is true, NOW is the time to trade in that dusty 1000
you may not get another chance !!!!!

Subject: Re: New Commodore Trade-In Offer
Posted: 1 Sep 88 14:36:07 GMT
Organization: University of Lowell, Computer Science Dept.
Omnitek Computers, a dealer in Tewksbury MA and Salem NH had an ad in
the local (Lawrence MA) paper last night about a trade in offer. It
said something like:
Trade in your Amiga 500 or 1000 and we will give you $1000
towards the purchase of an Amiga 2000, or trade in your other
CBM computer (C64, 128, plus 4, etc) and we will give you $500
(or maybe $600, I forget) towards the purchase of an Amiga 2000.
Pretty wild deal, eh? You can buy an Amiga 500 and sell it back to
them for $1000, or so it seems, or get rid of that C64 you've still
got in your closet.
DON'T ASK ME for any more info - I'm just telling you what I saw in
the ad last night. Call directory assistance if you want their phone
number.
Oh -- the ad said something like quantities limited, or limited time,
or something like that.
Other dealers might have similar offers.

Subject: A1000 Trade-In comes true!
Posted: 1 Sep 88 17:48:05 GMT
Organization: Compugraphic Corp. Wilmington, MA
Here's some good news!
My dealer just told me that commodore is giving another trade-in!
The problem? The price is HIGHER than last year: A1000+$1195 = B2000.
My dealer said it was because commodore raised the price on the 2000 to 2195.
If your dealer doesn'tknow of this deal yet, smartn' him up or contact the
Memory Location in WelleslyMass. The deal ends "supposedly" at the end of
this month (don't forget, today is September 1st.)
Thank you, and good night.

PC Computer Solutions had an add in this weeks New York Times for
Amiga 2000's at $1288. That's only 138 more than your buyback.
I hear Commodore is running some kind of dealer rebate scheme
that is inspiring a lot of sales.
As I recall, some friends that shopped around for the best buy back
offer (I don't know if it was as low as $150) found themselves
waiting months for delivery.
For all those who complain that they didn't hear about the first
trade-in, or they didn't have the money then but do now, PUT UP
OR SHUT UP! Call them NOW (212-629-8300), or check your local
dealer for a sale price.
Personally, I think this is a better deal than the trade-in, since
it is open to anyone, not just 1000 owners. Incidentally, they also
have 500's with monitor for $729.
Disclaimer:
I have never bought anything from this store. I never even heard of them
before Tuesday. I am just tired of people bitching because the
trade-in deal wasn't a lifetime offer!

If anyone can lend any more credit to these claims please post.

Could someone local to MA verify this?
If it's true I may just upgrade my 500!

1668.2 | The Deal's for Real | NACAD::W_PLOUFF | Beautiful downtown Littleton | Wed Sep 07 1988 10:20 | 14 |
| Last Saturday, the salesman at the Memory Location in Wellesley,
Mass., told me about the upgrade offer no less than three times!
His line was, "Your Amiga 1000 plus $1150 will get you an Amiga
2000. This promotion lasts through the end of September." Then
he pointed to a pile of about a dozen A2000 boxes.
It's real, folks.
BTW, beware that New York ad offering a 2000 for $1388. Ads like
that never mention that the monitor is extra, this is extra, that
is extra. What you wind up with for a complete system is only slightly
less expensive than elsewhere, and the dealer support is nil.

1668.3 | More details from Omnitek | RBW::WICKERT | MAA DIS Consultant | Thu Sep 08 1988 09:57 | 23 |
|
I have a few more details of the offer from Omnitek.
You hand them your Amiga 500 box plus $1000.00 and they hand you
a B2000 box. Now, if you also hand them another $200.00 they will
give you back your Amiga 500.
So, what it boils down to is if you can hand them $1200.00 and your
500's serial number they will give you a B2000 box.
This sounds like a pretty good deal if you have someone willing
to pick up the 500 from you. I have a friend whoose been interested
in getting into Amigas but hasn't done anything yet.
I figure I can sell the 500 (with 1 meg) to him for $400.00 and the
B2000 will only cost me $800.00! He'll also get a 1084S for $300.00
if I order it with the 2000 so that'll give him a 1meg Amiga 500
with a 1084S for $700.00 - not bad either.
Any comments?

| re: .3
what's a 1084S? difference between that a 1804?
That tradeup deal works out that same as when I traded in/bought
back my A1000 in the original trade-in program.
$800 + $400 buyback = $1200
Seems like a nice price for a new A2000. Isn't that what CBM
initially announced the A2000 price would be? (before dealer
pressure got them to inflate it up to $2000)

1668.5 | 1084S = 1084 + Stereo | RBW::WICKERT | MAA DIS Consultant | Thu Sep 08 1988 15:13 | 11 |
|
I was told that a 1084S has stereo speakers builtin as compared
to mono in the 1084.
I think I'm going to do this - didn't think I really needed a 2000
but the more I look into things the more I realize it's a better
way to go.

1668.6 | Where? | RDCV01::RANDREWS | Out of his mind, but not dangerous | Fri Sep 09 1988 18:14 | 6 |
| Is this a local thing or a national promotion? I asked at about
4 or 5 local (Chicago area) dealers and none of them had heard of
it. The 2 good ones said that they will check up on it for me with
out even asking. The other ones didn't seem to care. bummer.
