I'm looking for a reasonable way to get the files in a UNIX .tar file to my Amiga. I think the optimal solution would be to arc the tar file, copy it to the amiga, de-arc it and run TAR on it. Does anyone know of or have TAR for the Amiga? Or if I could run ARC on UNIX I could then run TAR on it, ARC it and copy it to the Amiga.

Check Fish disk #53 for TarSplit. I never used it so I won't comment on how it works.

Is anybody out there willing to upload TarSplit from Fish disk #53??

I don't have FF#53, but I do have a file called TARSPLIT on one of my older disks; I believe that I copied it directly from a Usenet Amiga archive node using uucp when I worked at a company with a machine on the Usenet. It must've gotten slightly munged somewhere, because it won't run on the Amiga right now (get "not an object module" message). It may need to be chopped to the correct file size (which I'm afraid I don't know), or, worse, it may be incomplete. I'll upload if you want to download and try to get it running.

Thanks for the offer. I think I'll wait to this weekend and drop by Memory Location for the Fish Disk. |
