1631.0. "Voice alert, how to?" by VFOFS::PHILLIPS () Tue Aug 30 1988 13:51

    Anyone know what I would have to do to get my A500 to talk when
    external buttons are activated (door bell/alarms, etc)

    Take a look at pauly"amiga"::nag17.arc.
    It has such a feature. there are a number of utilities
    out in the public domain that play sounds. I believe
    there are several commercial programs too for under $100 that allow
    recording of live sounds on a floppy for playback on the Amiga.
1631.2I HAVE EVERYTHING EXECPT THE SOFTWARE/INTERFACEVFOFS::PHILLIPSWed Aug 31 1988 14:049
    I was wondering what kind of interface I would use to connect
    my 500 to my house alarm... the idea is to have the 500 tell me
    what trigger set off the alarm..

    sounds like a job for a hardware hacker :-) (not me)

    What kind of interface does the house alarm have that would provide
    the info on what trigger set off the alarm? Or are you talking
    about creating that interface for the house alarm?

1631.4THIS IS DEC-TALK UNIT 2, WARNING, HONDA DOOR OPENVFOFS::PHILLIPSThu Sep 01 1988 13:3715
    I have a seperate switch (relay) for each trigger even the car
    alarm (radio control) is tied in to the system.

    right now only lights and lights/buzzer are activated when the car
    alarm is triggered. During the day I would like only a voice alert
    when sensors are triggered,

    I'll use my present setup at night

    (ps, operating the door handles of the cars releases my shotgun
    release!)

1631.5ASDG might have interface hardware...BARDIC::RAVANThu Sep 01 1988 13:516
    I think ASDG might have interfacing hardware via their Twin-X
    board mentioned in the "AmiExpo Midwest 88" article in the
    Sept. 88 issue of Amazing Computing.

    re: .4

    then it sounds like all you need is hardware to connect the relays
    to the computer, and software on the computer to do some with it.

    Maybe something like a BSR-X10 controller that can be controlled
    from the computer? I think it has a serial interface, and the
    remote units should be able to report the status of a relay and
    maybe enable/disable the relay (this is all just pure guesswork,
    I've only seen them, never used one)

    There's a short paragraph on page 90 of the August '88 amigaworld
    about a product called PowerMaster you might want to read.

    Software:  $24
    X-10 Interface:  $51

    Company: Compplications (their spelling not mine)

    RE .0 AND .2

    Since you already have the alarm system, the simplest interface
    is thru the joystick port. You should be able to track up to
    16 events ( including "normal") using the 4 input pins on the port.

    a simple basic program could monitor the port and speak/say the
    message OR you could sample your own messages for playback.

    Hummm, sounds like a possibilty, I'll also check x-10 board.

    For you info, the car's door handles are wired to switches, these
    switches are wired to a transmitter, the transmitter talks to a
    receiver in the house (which turns on lights/makes a wake up call,
    and can release my shotgun). Lights come on outside the house for
    1 minutes 40 seconds, inside lights are latched on, and manually
    reset.

    I lost a cellular phone control head October 87, thief broke a window
    in the Honda, cut the cable because he could not find the cable
    connector. He also tried to get in my Jeep, damaged 2 windows.

    Total loss, wondows/hardware <$500.00, and the thief got something
    worth nothing.

    I now have motion sensor in the carport, and wireless alarms to
    3 vehicles. I would like the A500 to let me know "time and location"
    of the event (which sensor was activated).

    This is my project for the winter.

    Anyone know how I can keep the A500 from my daughter, (I got the
    A500 for her last year)
