Just another note about the dangers of pin 14 on the parallel port. I've read many horror stories in magazines about the +5v pullup shorting out the psu when connected to printers not requiring this power.(When using a standard IBM Pc parallel cable on A500) Has anyone had any experience of this? I'm loath to use my parallel cable from my pc on my A500 with my roughly Epson Compatible CENTONICS GLP printer until I am sure it's not going to destroy the serial interface or something equally cash sapping. I've noticed that there has been discussion of this in previous topics but noone seems to have mentioned this little problem, or whether indeed it is a problem or not. Sorry to prolong the agony of the printer cable saga but can we just get this one cleared up once and for all. :-) Cheers, Steve Peake

<<< Note 1621.0 by SUBURB::PEAKES "Who is this guy anyway?" >>> -< Will it go ....BANG! >- < Just another note about the dangers of pin 14 on the parallel port. < < I've read many horror stories in magazines about the +5v pullup < shorting out the psu when connected to printers not requiring this < power.(When using a standard IBM Pc parallel cable on A500) < < Has anyone had any experience of this? I used a standard IBM Pc cable on my A500. My believe the +5v pullup goes to a logic input that wants a high level. I would have preferred to drive the signal with a true logic high but it's worked fine for 9 months now. My printer is a Panasonic 1092i and I use the epson driver. -Tom- | |||||

Me too. I've been using a standard IBM Pc parallel lead with my A500 and the Star LC10. There has been no trouble up to now. Herbie. |
