1572.0. "Automatic Directory Scanning" by LOWLIF::DAVIS (That's not a BUG, it's a FEATURE!) Tue Aug 02 1988 10:50
Hi all. I have a request to make. Some readers of this conference seem
to have written command procedures to scan (usually weekly) for new amiga
files on the E-net. This is harmless since many of us have announced little
(or big!) directories where files can be found. But...
Every week I get a ton and a half of security alarms because these little
procs keep trying to access directories that I have purposely NOT made
world read. As the system manager of MDKCSW, I find this very tiring.
Network Security requires us to run SECUREPACK on all nodes connected to
the E-net, and SECUREPACK turns on security auditing.
Please quit scanning my directories. As in the past I will continue to
announce any files I upload. If you must keep running the proc, AT LEAST
restrict it to only scan the one directory that is world read (MDKCSW::DUA2:
[DAVIS.AMIGA] and not any others.
Thanks,
...richard
