1549.0. "A2000 & digital sampler?" by TOOK::DDS_SEC () Mon Jul 18 1988 17:14

Hi, I'm Mike, and I'm wondering if any of you can steer me toward
a previous article or lend some info. I'm en route to purchasing
an A2000, and I also am considering a sound sampler. I don't know
much about quality or price, but am interested in digital effects
processing. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you,

There are (at least)three hardware sound samplers available (with their
 standard software)

Info is from the June AMIGA World magazine.

The only one I have any experience with is the Soundscape sampler, if
you've got something specific you want to do I'd be glad to test it
for ya'.

. FutureSound - $175 (list)... plugs into the Parallel port,
has pass-thru for the printer. input from line
or microphone (mini jack). the SW supplied
allows you to vary the sample rate, cut and
paste between 4 samples and some effects.
Some routines are callable from Basic.

. PerfectSound - $89 (list)... parallel port, no passthru for
printer. line input or mic thru a preamp.
sample can be edited..(chop, merge compressed)
variable sample rate to 25 khz.

Amiga internal sound uses a 7.? low pass filter
but some software can disable it..( like sonix)

I believe there is a sharware version of the SW
that you can poke around with and experiment on
existing samples. Don't know if it has all the
features of the retail product though.

. Soundscape sampler $99(list) - sampling software also included
in Sounscapes pro-midi SW. I have this one....
plugs into the second mouse port (joystick port)
accepts line or mic input. Gain, threshold, and
compression selected in SW. Editing includes
start/stop points ( trimming the actual sample)
setting a repeat loop point. Using the mouse
you can redraw the wave form cycle by cycle
at any point. ( very tedious ). can store
a different sample in 10 octaves. Transpose
samples up or down by octaves. you can also
add an ADSR envelope to the sample.

All of these save the samples as IFF files (soundscape also has it's own
extended MIMETICS format).

Software that can be used to manipulate existing samples include....

. Synthia $99 (list).. can create your own or modify existing ones
		 	using additive,plucked string,interpolative,percussive
			synthesis.

. StudioMagic $99(list) can be used in place of PerfectSound. Amplitude
modulaion (ADSR),comb filtering ( removing freqs?)
and FFT (fast fourier Transforms). can also
be used as a simple midi sequencer.

. AudioMaster $59... can edit Sonix (RFF), IFF, and MIMETICS, samples
			  Echo, Reverb, Etc.

If you know the IFF format I see no reason why you couldn't write your
own routines to modify the data any way you want..
