1529.0. "Word Lookup Protection" by MTWAIN::MACDONALD (WA1OMM 7.093/145.05/223.58 AX.25) Tue Jul 12 1988 14:04

Some time ago, someone somewhere distributed a clever little program
for Maurauder II users that automatically inserted the correct word
into the "look up the word in the manual" prompt. Pagesetter V1.1e
now requires looking up the word. I can't think of a more ghastly
way of protecting a program (section 3.1, line 28, word 14). Sheesh
    - it is a pain. At any rate, I am curious to know if anyone out
there has a "clever little program" for Pagesetter users, or perhaps
a patch that will disable the lookup subroutine.

I also use V1.1e,and it is indeed a pain to go to the manual every
time you run Pagesetter.I think it would take more than a clever
little program though. It looks like you would have to have the entire
manual on disk,an then use a search routine to find the wanted word.
not having a hard drive,or extra memory this would be more trouble
then keeping the manual near my amiga and looking up the word once
in a while.A patch that always asked for the same word would be
the better approach. As for there not being a more ghastly way of
protecting a disk I disagree. The "please insert master disk" has
this spot taken. As a side note the current protection scheme worked
to my advantage.I called Gold Disk an requested an upgrade. They
had not even recieved my registration card yet,but sent the disk
without delay.I felt that this was because they knew the new version
would be useless without the manual. They are always helpfull when
called and have been very good in updating their products. The few
moments it takes to look up the required word I offer up as a sacrifice
in honor of their outstanding support.
