1500.1 | a few questions... | MUNICH::CARLI | Bernardo da Vinci - the Amiga genius | Mon Jun 27 1988 12:16 | 11 |

I tested SoundScape 1.4 for a German Amiga magazine a few weeks
and had no problems at all.
Did you setup the right MIDI-Channels and is your MIDI-cable ok?
What kind of loops or connections did you made on the patch-panel?
SoundScape also allows a few different modes for recording and playing
back (Trigger mode, Echo mode etc) - check if accidently you turned
on one of these modes.

1500.2 | More stuck notes | GNUVAX::MEYERS | | Tue Jun 28 1988 13:55 | 8 |
| I've had SoundScape 1.4 ever since it was released. I've always
had problems with stuck notes; they occur even when I'm
just using SoundScape to play samples
triggered by a MIDI keyboard. SoundScape also
seems to generate spurious notes; usually they're about two octaves
below middle C.

Well, it's infrequent enough during normal playing but I can
force it to happen..
I tried the following setup and was able to get notes Stuck
. put a sound in channel 1
. connect Midi in to the amiga sound channel
. run your thumb up and down midi keyboard,
press 10 notes at a time etc.
I didn't have to open the tape deck at all to "force" the problem.
I have also never seen it during playback...
I have heard of some PD stuff put out by the developer, one of which
is supposed to clean up the midi clocks... I wonder if this will help.

ps. I tried swapping midi in/out cables.. only using midi in etc. It's
not cabling or external loops. Of course it may be sensitive to
some keyboards.

1500.4 | DMCS and Synthia can stick notes too | ANGORA::JANZEN | Tom 296-5421 LMO2/O23 | Tue Jun 28 1988 14:19 | 14 |
| DMCS can make stuck notes, but not when it's playing a score, only
when I'm very quickly (I'm getting fast) entering a score from the
screen keyboard window. I often enter scores by pasting the notes
in on the score, but if the durations are all the same (all eight
notes, eg), then I use the keyboard window. It doesn't do it any
other time.
It may have something to do with the Amiga sound device driver and
queue. In fact, Synthia does it when I move too fast, also.
Synthia is not a score player, but I can play notes on the keyboard.
If I'm holding a keyboard key down to hear a note of my instrument,
and then select something, such as a window with the mouse, the
note sticks until it's hit again when it's ready.
Yeah, I think the Amiga sound device holds the answer to this.

1500.5 | More random notes here too! | TEMPE1::ARBUCKLE | WIZARD | Mon Jul 11 1988 15:08 | 28 |

re: .2
I have been working with Soundscape since January and have had
to put up with these random notes (also 2 octaves below middle C),
stuck notes and other wierdness. I figured it was due to the
cables, or proximity ot phone lines, power cables, etc and have
survived. Now that I know it is not just me, I'm concerned that
perhaps the software itself is indeed bugged. I do know that the
set-up I have causes random Cc127 to appear in the note sequences.
I don't have a listing of the Control Change Codes, but I have
checked in my keyboard manual and Cc127 is not implemented for
either transmit or receive. Can anyone tell me what is a Cc127?
One last thing before I end this note. I have a friend
that used to work for DEC before becoming a big-time synthesizer
musician. I believe he uses Soundscape also. I think it's time
to look him up and find out if he has had this happen to him. I
will post the results of my conversation with him here.
BTW-I have a Technics PR80, Roland MT-32 (just acquired yesterday)
and the AMIGA with Soundscape. There are times when I'm recording
from the PR80 and the Record light shuts off on the Tape Deck
without my doing/touching/setting anything. Wierd, huh?

I guess I forgot to respond with what I found out.
It turns out that my ECE MIDI box had a problem. Apparently
the early ECE boxes did not correctly pass on all MIDI data. These
boxes were made for the Amiga 1000. When the Amiga 500 became
popular, they rushed a verison of the box that has some problems
with Soundscape.
I brought the box back, and we tried another...same problem!
When I brought the second one back, he had just received a new
shipment, so I took one of those, hooked it up...no more stuck
notes, no more extra notes, no more wierdness!!
Incidently, we opened both boxes and they both appeared
identical, so I can't tell you how to know which ones are ok
and which are not. Looks like trial and error to me.

1500.7 | maybe I'll build the roll your own from EM | MERIDN::ROSCETTI | Some things u never get used to | Thu Apr 06 1989 17:33 | 13 |

Hmmm... I've got an ECE Midi Box for my 500 too. Is ECE aware of
this problem ?? I.E. If I call about replacing the box will they
know what I'm talking about?
Then again I've seen some nice multi port Midi interfaces in a
few magazines. Maybe it's time to upgrade.
thanks...
