| Brian Reid of DEC Western Research Laboratory tracked down the problem
at my request. In the transition from Usenet news to mail inside DEC,
the articles go through a mailer on some Ultrix machine (DECWRL:: ?).
That mailer thinks that a line containing only a single period marks
the end of a message, and truncates it there. This "feature" complies
with ARPAnet RFC822, a network mail standard, and many mailers
elsewhere on Usenet have it.
Well, in his introduction the moderator had the same text in _every_
part of the Masterweave posting, and it had a period overflowed onto a
line by itself. Zot! -- nobody on the VMS part of the net has any
intact postings.
(I have asked the moderators at Purdue to watch out for this.)
Sorry, this doesn't get the files for you, but thought you might
want to know why they all got clobbered. Anybody on the Enet get
comp.sources/binaries.amiga directly from Usenet?
