1441.0. "Mouse replacement question" by CSSE::WARD () Thu May 26 1988 18:49

I've run out of room on my computer desk for running a mouse.

The obvious answer I thought would be to get a trackball. Once
at the store (they were out), the salesperson suggested using
the JoyMouse tool from Gizmo instead. I could then attach a keyboard
joystick and effectively get mouse capability.

The problem was that I think I can't select Joystick from within
WordPerfect. Anyone have a simpler and more direct approach?

P.S. I don't want to use the Amiga/Arrow-key mouse substitute. The
requestor box & arrow key & trackball is preferable over
the IBM like function keys/templates.

1441.1Have you tried a mouse pad? trackball isn't that greatRANGLY::PFISTER_ROBBike hard, or sell itFri May 27 1988 11:3612
I order a trackball about a year ago from a company in the back
of Amiga World. [It was a bargain at < $25] It works fine and all,
but it's a poor substitute for a mouse. Every Amiga owner I know
has borrowed it, and none could stand using it for anything more
than marble madness. It's really hard to hold down a button while
flicking at the ball with your fingers!! and accuracy is much worse.

Do you have a mouse pad?? My mouse pad takes up only a little more
room than my trackball, and with preferences set for maximum mouse
action I dont have a problem.

If you haven't already tried DMOUSE or MACH then one of these may
also solve your problem. These both are capable of accelerating
the mouse. I'm using DMOUSE these days and it works well.

1441.3Is a mouse pad a small house?CSSE::WARDFri May 27 1988 14:0311

Is mouse pad a mat or something more?

Hmmm... Wonder if anyone ever designed a three button mouse that
used the spare button for "overdrive?" By that I mean the
mouse could operate either fast or slow. Anyway... keep
those card coming in folks.

How come one can't use a "mouse" adaptor for a joystick? I've read
of some solid state "sticks" that drive a screen pointer by pressure.
1441.4Give DMouse a try!LOWLIF::DAVISThat's not a BUG, it's a FEATURE!Fri May 27 1988 16:155
Yes, a mouse pad is just a foam/rubber pad that helps your mouse get better
traction that you could on the top of some desks. Really, Steve's suggestion
in .2 is the best. Try a mouse accelerator like DMouse, "you'll be glad you
did!" :-)
