Again a stupid question... I'm currently receiving the comp.sources.amiga files via VAX-Mail. As far as I understand are those files often shell-archieves. Is it right that they only can be extracted on an ULTRIX system or is it also posibble on a VMS system ? How can I subscribe to the USENET groups from an ULTRIX-machine? Thanks for any help! Capture the files (since they are ascii text files) in a local buffer (on your Amiga). Edit out the extraneous lines at the top of the file (everything before the word "begin"). Use the UUDECODE utility to extract the file(s): UUDECODE filename[.UUE]

WHERE CAN I GET UUDECODE FOR THE AMIGA? I HAVE A LOT OF PROGRAMS ON VAX/VMS (ZOO,UUDECODE,UUENCODE,ARC..), BUT I ONLY HAVE ARC ON THE AMIGA... HOW DO YOU GET YOUR FILES FROM A VAX TO THE AMIGA (USING A MODEM AT 1200 BAUD SEEMS A BIT SLOW) BERNHARD

UUDECODE can be found at MVCAD3""::USER0:[AMIGA.ARC]UUDECODE.ARC. > HOW DO YOU GET YOUR FILES FROM A VAX TO THE AMIGA (USING A MODEM > AT 1200 BAUD SEEMS A BIT SLOW) Well, yes it is. I have taken my Amiga into my office and done some nice transfers at 9600 baud before. Other than that, what can you do? By the way, in answer to the original question... I use the VMS version of SHAR to extract the files from the usenet postings. Then I UUDECODE on the VAX and make my own ARC to download to the Amiga. For what it's worth, ...richard |
