I have an LJ250 on my A500. This little guy is unbelievable! I use the
PAINTJET driver (pointer in this file *somewhere*, or on WJG::AMIGA:)
I've printed several DPAINT II pics, and a couple Sculpt 3D. They come out
real nice. I think if I knew more about this stuff I could play around
with preferences settings and get it even better! All in all, the LJ250
is a quality printer.
I must admit, I am running it a 4800 baud, and it's quite slow (I *think* it
took about 10-15 minutes to print a low-res DPAINT pic!). Maybe 9600 would help,
and maybe the driver is just a pig? Either way, dont expect to go into
production with this thing :-)
I don't know about employee price, but I've heard it was under $1K
(reasonable?)

take about 3-4 min.

Wow! I'll change to 9600 baud, do you have the V1.3 driver online?
This is what I'm using:

1416.4 | They're out there | WINNER::JBERNARD | John Bernard YWO/292-2591 | Fri May 13 1988 10:05 | 11 |
| I got the 1.3 printer driver DEVS:PRINTER.DRIVER from V2.0 of ProWrite
as well as a new version of HP_Paintjet driver. If you have purchased
any new versions of software lately that come with a workbench,
you probably have the pre-release drivers.
I have an LJ on my Amiga at work. You're welcome to drop by anytime
to take a look/try it out if you're in the area. I'm in Westboro
F/S HQ, YWO/E3.

1416.5 | I called a while back | DPDMAI::ANDERSONA | | Fri May 13 1988 17:59 | 9 |
| I called Employee purchase a month or so ago their price was $850.00.
But they will only sell the serial version. The Paralel version was
to hard to get and customers, (non Employee customers) get the priority.
This is month old information.

1416.6 | Faster Driver, PLEASE | HSK03::HAKALA | Tuomo Hakala, ES Finland | Tue Jun 28 1988 08:02 | 14 |
| Hi,
I'm having a LJ250 printer home as a loan for about a month this
summer. I have tried it and it is marvellous! But with the PAINTJET.EXE
driver it is soooo SLOW !!
Haven't got ProWrite or any software with the new 1.3 drivers. So
PLEASE could anybody upload a faster driver. It would make me so
happy during my vacation 8^).
Thanks in advance.

1416.7 | LJ250 emp. price and HPGL | DNEAST::COMBAR_CURT | Curtis T. Combar - Augusta QIS | Wed Oct 12 1988 22:27 | 10 |
| Has anyone heard a recent employee price for the LJ250 and whether
the parallel version is available?
Also, does the printer support HPGL? I have been assuming the thing
supports HP Graphics since it is mostly designed by HP.
Thanks for your help,
Curt

1416.8 | yes | DNEAST::PFISTER_ROB | I cant put *THAT* here..... | Thu Oct 13 1988 08:58 | 8 |
| There is a parallel version available through DEPP, give them a
call for the exact price/availability.
The thing works great with the 1.3 HP printer driver (although it
does understand sixels with the setting of a switch) I got a digitized
picture done on one in my office if you are curious...

cable is missing. I have the HP drivers off 1.3, but no manuals
or cables for the printer. Would appreciate some direction...thanks

| re. .9
There has been no answer since oct 89. I wish to connect an LJ252 to my
amiga 500 I bought X'mas 89 with WB 1.3 .
What do I need as to cables and good drivers ?
Thanks in advance, Patrick

1416.11 | 1.3 has what you need | DUGGAN::GAY | Now where'd I put that hammer... | Fri Nov 09 1990 13:48 | 14 |
| I use the painjet driver, set the LJ250 to HPGL, 9600 baud.
The 1.3 manual describes the prefs settings to use. I needed
a multiplier of 2 in x and y to get the picture to be approx
screen size.
The cable I built myself, long ago, to talk to an Okidata
microline 92. I remember needing to have jumpers between
pins (DSR and DTR perhaps) or the printer assumed that the
computer was not ready. The LJ250 needs the same jumper.

| The LJ252 is a parallel interface printer. I have heard that the
standard Centronics cable will do.

1416.13 | Hammer you said ? | PEKING::NONDEP | | Fri Nov 09 1990 14:10 | 10 |
| Thanks for the quick response.
Tonight I shall have a look in the drivers disk and read the manual.
Is there any all ready made cables available as I'm totally useless
with wiring and technical explanation. The other thing is that I don't
have any tools except a Hammer....
Many thanks, Patrick the UK wishfull owner of an LJ252...

1416.15 | LJ252 print driver question | PEKING::NONDEP | | Mon Nov 19 1990 08:12 | 10 |
| The wishful owner is now an owner. The printer came in with the cable
just plug it in the back of the amiga and of you go.
An other thing I have an old French basic W/P called Textcraft + it
doesn't have the right driver "HP-paintjet" I can print text using
HP-deskjet how do you load an other driver ? There is a space for other
printer but no explanation on how to use it , seem to allow only for
name of printer ! Can it be that simple ?
Bye for now Patrick

I'm not sure I completely understand your question, but if the HP
printer driver is compatible with the Workbench version on your
Textcraft disk, you should be able to copy it to devs/printers and
select it via preferences. This is assuming Textcraft uses preferences
and not its own mechanism.
Hope this helps,
Pete
