| It was probably 2 Mbytes of memory, not gigabytes. The Amiga rags
say its a Model 2000 mechanically with various assundry add-ons
like a 68030 cpu and a Unix-like operating system. Definitely not
geared for the "home market."

1407.2 | They SAID Gigabytes, I promise | 45384::MASON | | Mon May 09 1988 13:18 | 12 |
| No, I am absolutely, 101% sure that it was gigabytes. It may have
been a typing error but the people reporting had actually been to
the show and seen it. Well if its not geared for the home market
I'm not really that interested but I am a bit unsure about Commodore
seriously attempting to break into Operating System type enviroments
considering they have almost always concentrated on PCs. Time will
tell how popular this machine will be, and if it popular the market
will most definitely be professionals in Video, Animation or Art
work. I cant see it being very successful or Business Enviroments
for developing Software or maintaining Databases.

1407.3 | 31 bit address space? | BARDIC::RAVAN | | Mon May 09 1988 13:43 | 7 |
| I assume from the little bit I read about it in AmigaWorld that it will
have an address space of 2 gigs (31 bits), not that it necessarily
comes with 2 gigs of physical memory. I assume that it will be a
68030-based machine running Unix supporting the builtin MMU for virtual
memory. Just one person's assumptions, however.

| .3 is probably correct. 2 gigs of physical memory, at the current
memory prices, might price it out of the Workstation market :-)
Of course, by Easter of 1989, the normal home computer may have
at least a couple megs of memory (remember OS/2??)

I seem to remember an AmigaWorld article saying these machines were
"a loooong way off"...

1407.6 | It's Easter '89 | 45384::MASON | | Tue May 10 1988 10:47 | 6 |
| No, I am certain of it being Easter '89. Its in the May issue of
AmigaWorld.
