1369.0. "A2000/Smokey Wierdness" by DICKNS::MACDONALD (WA1OMM Listening 52.525) Sun Apr 24 1988 12:29

    A2000 Smokey Wierdness

    Every minute or so an unusual characater appears at my cursor location.
    While in NOTES it generates the following error message:

    Key NONAME currently has no definition.

    Here's the character that magically appears:

    Any thoughts on where this is coming from and why? I am using a
    new A2000 with Smokey V1.1. The A1000 keyboard is turned off and
    the 8 bit controls are in use. This did not happen on my A1000.

    Another unusual item. Normally I have a block cursor on the screen
    when typing in a notes such as this one. The moment I start using
    the A2000 cursor keys, the block cursor becomes and underline cursor.

    Thanks.

1369.1check the phone line?STARCH::WHERRYSoftware Commandoes Ltd.Sun Apr 24 1988 13:599

    Noise on your phone line? I have experienced something similar.
    Look for something like a small refrigerator, AC or some other
    appliance which turns on periodically, or it could be that you just
    have a bad phone line. Unfortunately, I don't do EE black magic
    so I can't give you a technical explanation...

1369.2cursor may indicate IRMSAUTER::SAUTERJohn SauterMon Apr 25 1988 09:305
    I believe the shape of the cursor indicates insert mode versus replace
    mode in the terminal emulator. TPU uses insert mode to avoid
    retransmitting the rest of the line if you insert a character in
    the middle of a line.

    Yeah, the first problem sounds like noise on the line.

    I run into the same problem about once a month. It comes and goes.
