Picked up a copy of bards tale about a month ago. Haven't had much
time to play with it though. What and where is the first dungeon
you should go into? Is it the wine cellar? I have yet to find the
catacombs and the sewers.
thanks,

I got stuck there, too. The sewers are under the wine cellar.
When you get ini the sewers, don't make the same mistake I did:
All dungeons are on a 22*22 grid, each square being ine square in
the dungeon. If you reach one end of the 22*22 grid, but the hallway
continues onward, 'wrap around' to the other side of the grid, like
you would do on a world map.
By the way, how do you formfeed? (I should already know this, right?)
Good luck!

it lowers your armor class a little. The name suggests battle, so
it might have something to do with extra damage.
Is there any direct way into the amber tower? I have made it

hints it refers to, but I can't hit the right name. Could someone
tell me if the answer is contained within the tower, or if it is
to be found elsewhere?

1352.20 | Consistant source of gold wanted | AYOV10::ATHOMSON | C'mon, git aff! /The Kelty Clippie | Thu Jun 02 1988 09:06 | 29 |
| Hi,
I've only had TBT for a few days now and I'm looking for clues
already.... (no patience). I am still at the stage of wandering the
streets building up my characters and I have found a way accumulating
reasonable experience points but no sure way to gain gold. With
the result that I have a couple of 5th level magic users but I can't
afford to pay for the new spells !!! Each fight will only net me
1-50 gold pieces per character and it usually costs me at least
that much to heal the damage earned in the fight !!!
Does anyone have any tips, hints, spoilers etc. how I can earn more
gold in a consistant manner ?? (without cheating, e.g. creating
new characters and trading their gold in the AG.)
Alan T.
Spoiler for other new users to gain experience points follows.
Attack the statues....
The samurai is worth up to 200 exp.
The ogre lord (near the stables at the west gate) is worth up to
500 exp points. They are all reasonably easy "kills" just make sure
that your fighters have good armour because if they get a hit in
first it is quite severe.
Then hot-foot it back to a temple for healing, then the AG, then
back to the streets and hey presto the statues are back !! ready
to be attacked again for another few hundred exp points.

1352.21 | Go for the GOLD | CLOVAX::HERSHBERGER | | Fri Jun 03 1988 09:11 | 9 |
| The only way to get more money is to enter the dungeons. The
sewers are your best bet at your point in the games. The monsters
are not that much harder if you know when to retreat and they give
your more gold. Hints for finding the sewer are either in this
file or in the games note file.
Good luck, Tom
P.S. If you can't find the note on sewers I will give hints.

| I'm doing fine now, many thanks for all the tips. I have one question
though...
I bought the dragonsheild from the shoppe expecting a large drop
in the characters AC but it only dropped it one point more than
the towersheild it replaced. Now, 15,000 gold seems an awful lot
to pay for one extra AC point... so, does it have another 'use'
that I haven't found yet ???

MAJOR spoiler wanted (! needed !!)
Question follows
Please can someone give me a mega hint (or even a complete spoiler)
to let me know how I can light the "Darkness..." areas in the sewers?

I guess that it may have something to do with the "Pass the light

| re .26 (help in lighting the dark areas)
I think you're out of luck! I never found anything better than using
a light wand or a little magic (MAFL, as I recall), and keeping
a sharp eye on the screen for the short time the light lasted. After
a while, you get better at remembering what you've seen, and you
get better at fumbling in the dark 8^).

but entire levels or close to that a pain in the *ss! I don't know
what possessed Michael Cranford to place these in the game, but
maybe he was just feeling sadistic at the time. I'd kill for a
UNDA spell. (UNdo DArkness) Oh well. Happing Ouch!ing. :^)

My magician is almost (! probably about a week) ready to reach level 13
and gain his level 7 spells, so I was reading the manual to decide
which (Sorceror or Wizard) to change to next. There is a level 4 or 5
sorceror spell called (I think) Cats Eyes, described as "giving all
members of the party perfect night vision - indefinitely". Have any of
the more experienced players of TBT tried this spell in the "Darkness!"
areas ?????

cats eyes is a handy spell however because it saves spell points
by being Indefinite (ie you dont have to keep casting new light
spells as the old ones run out of steam)
I am now at the third level of Mangars tower and I have yet to find
something that cures the "darkness" zones

| re .26
<spoiler follows>
the "pass the light at night" clue refers to a beam of intense heat
in the sewers that is not passable. The beam is reflected sunlight
from the land of the living and thus - the only way to pass it is
to wait until nighttime when the sun has gone away.
There is another path in the sewers that allows you to get around
this however but passing the beam at night is much quicker
