1319.0. "DPaint II Key Disk System" by FORTY2::MCCARTNEY (Colin McCartney, MB Development) Mon Apr 11 1988 11:19

    Hi,

I've been using DPaint II alot recently and really like it. There is
only one problem though, that bloody key disk system which is really
annoying me. Now I have absolutely no intention of giving away copies
of DPaint to other people (I bought so why should'nt they ?) but I am
getting pretty sick of of going through the key disk process every time
I want to start the program. Is there any way of running DPaint without
having to suffer this. I realise that this may be considered an aid to
any pirates out there so I'll understand if this topic is considered
unsuitable for discussion. I'll point out again that I have already
bought this program and have no intention of giving away copies.

I really can't stand schemes like these. Copy protection is all very
well but when it starts to hinder the use of the software (as I think
is the case with DPaint) then the company are are doing nobody any
good. I can see myself buying another drawing package sometime in the
future just to avoid this stuff.

    Thanks,
	Colin.

You might want to pick up a copy of one of the copy programs. These
programs pretty much pay for themselves when it comes to EA. It
doesn't make a whole lot of sense to pay EA $30 for an uncopyprotected
disk when you've already paid for the software. For the same $30
you can get a copy utility that will remove the copy protection
for you. I have marauder and while I'm not really happy with their
scheme of having to purchase new brain files it does do the job.
It will copy many software titles and simultaneously remove the
copy protection from the new copy.

Oh, yea, Marauder is copy-protected (look up keyword in manual)
and it also will not back up Arkanoids (their product).
Kind of hypocritical if you ask me.

Marauder has officially dropped the 'look up the word' copy protection.

    Thanks guys,

Stupid me, I already have a copy of maurader which I looked at once and
have been to busy to go back too since. Did'nt ever read the docs so I
did'nt now it could handle DPaint.

    Problem solved, thanks again,
	Colin.

Isn't there a PD thing on the net that gets rid of Dpaint copy protection?

One of the AMICUS disks has a program to remove Dpaint
protection. I think I listed it in the AMICUS disks programs I
    mentioned some notes back.

It's here on our very own net! I can't seem to remember the name. I've
looked in the stuff I have here on WJG, but can't seem to find it...

I've gone and lost my copy of maurader so I'd be really greatful if
anyone can remember where this utility is.

    Thanks in advance,
	Colin.

I hate to spoil the fun, but the PD copy protection remover is
    for DPAINT, not DPAINT II.
