For a monitor I stole the VR241-A from my Rainbow. There are
notes in this file for making a cable. But if you want to buy one
you can look in the trade rags. Amiga world is good and so is the
Computer shopper to some extent. The cheapest place I have found
is Abel supply in Tenn. I can include some prices in here but you
might want to shop around. I don't know where you are located you
might find a local place thats better. In oklahoma mail order is
the best (no 7% sales tax). Here are some things from their list.
Description Manufaturer Abel Price
Amiga 500 power supply Pheonix Electronics $ 71.32
Amiga RF Modulator/switch/Box Commodore (temp unavail) $ 23.02
This power supply looks like a replacement for the Amiga 500 but
a little bit more wattage I think. The RF modulator is to connect
it to a TV. There are 10 monitors in the list. I don't know which
one to point you to. The one most talked about in this note file
is the SONY (*). This is something you should research before you shell
out the bucks. I already owned the VR241 so it was an easy decision.
These thing can get pricey. Well here they are.
4120 14" RGB w/speaker Thompson $253.33
7BM623PC-80 12" Amber " $ 86.95
7BM613pc-80 12" green " $ 86.95
895DN RGB long per (3/88) Microvitec $691.42
CPD1302 13" Multiscan RGB Sony $707.25
CPD1310 13" Digital/Analog Sony $333.50
Diamond Scan 13" multiscan Mitsubishi $499.07
* KV1311CR 13" Digita/Analog Sony $496.11
KV2011CR 20" Digital/Analog Sony $755.80
RGB 80 13" RGB Thompson $266.12
Like I said its a big choice. the Amiga can handle a Digital RGBI
But this will only show sixteen colors (IBM PC Clone monitor type)
Analog RGB, (is the best for color) or composite video Monochrome (no
color). I would suggest you take a good look thru this notes file
the subject of monitors is discussed at length. Here is Abel's
Number and address they take credit cards.

It might be a good idea for you to visit the local computer stores
and look around. Then buy mail order. I know thats sneaky but
it lets you see what there is to buy.
The full Abel list is quite extensive. I would upload it if there
was an area that had write access. I am just a lowly Field service
engineer. With nothing but a mail account. If some one has such
a space let me know I have a few late night P.M.'s coming up.
Hope this helps I have used Abel a couple of times with no problems.

Thanks Alan, I'll probably grab the latest AMIGA WORLD
and start at the back...
Anyone have the dirt on the PALS - the local AMIGA
dealer says its required but wouldn't go into details,
anyone know just how required? The quote was $100.
Thanx,
/Ed\

I don't think you can use your European Amiga with an American TV.
The European Amiga output a PAL (the TV standard, not the chip)
compatible signal. The American Amiga outputs a NTSC compatible
signal. The European Amiga has 256 non-interlaced scan lines at
50 hertz; the American, 200 scan lines at 60 hertz.
I believe that this is one of those things controlled by those PALs
(the chips, not the TV standard) the deal wants to sell you.
