1266.0. "S-VHS monitor question" by CSSE::WARD () Mon Mar 21 1988 17:54
Is there a place for S-VHS monitors with Amigas? Reviews of upcoming
HDTV sets mention slight blurring (much like a high persist monitor).
Perhaps a video device for non-interlace RSG to Y/C exists.
[The reverse of the conversion cables that Sony and Zenith provide]
I've attached a note from the VIDEO conference. It seems RSG inputs
on new tele has disappeared and this might be a timely topic.

Note 1502.5 Y/C to RGB? 5 of 6
RETORT::RON 20 lines 14-MAR-1988 14:16
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Generally, I doubt that one either gains --or loses-- a lot by using
a Y/C to RGB adapter. It's simply a way of getting the signal into
the monitor. As a matter of fact, I doubt you will be able to see
the difference even between going Y/C as opposed to driving the base
band video input of the monitor.
If, however, you are doing some editing between two VCRs, using the
Y/C connections should show picture improvement when you get to the
second or third generation dub.
A more technical response would have pointed out that most monitors
already have an internal Y/C to RGB adaptation, since the CRT itself
requires that the three separate guns be driven. That means one
would be substituting the internal adapter for an external one.
Assuming equal quality, the external adapter should have minimal
impact.
