1261.0. "Ferrari Formula One by Electonic Arts" by SOFTY::HEFFELFINGER (Give my body to science fiction.) Sat Mar 19 1988 18:51
After months of waiting, I finally have Ferrari Formula One in my
nasty little hands. It comes on a single, key disk protected diskette.
You may make as many copies of this disk as you wish, but when you
boot the game, it will ask you to put the original in the drive
long enough to check it, and then you put your copy back in.
A reasonable alternative to the average uncopyable game.
After several hours of play, I conclude that this is an addictive
bugger. However, some words of warning are needed. Don't buy this
if you're looking for the most dazzling, purely arcade racing game
in the known universe. The graphics are solid, but a few tradeoffs
were made for speed's sake and, I believe to insure that there was
enough space for the rest of the game. This is not the kind of
game where you just jerk your joystick around. It consists of
tightening up your car, practicing with it, tuning it some more,
practicing, traveling to a Grand Prix somewhere on the other side
of the globe, practicing, qualifying, practicing, racing, and
then starting the process over again in another country. I think
the package advertises 16 different tracks. I've only raced on
two of them so far.
The graphics are good, the game has some depth, and the actual races
make your palms sweat. If you like racing, buy it.

1261.1 | Digital sponsors Formula one racing? | MAADIS::WICKERT | MAA DIS Consultant | Mon May 23 1988 00:39 | 10 |

I'm sitting here waiting to logon from home with my copy of Ferrari
Formula One sitting in front of me and what do I see?????
On the nose of the Ferrari race car on the front cover of the package,
along with Longines and Goodyear, is the name DIGITAL as one of
the sponsors!!! You could have knocked me down with a feather!

1261.2 | Ferrari uses DEC | GLASS::SHIVES | | Mon May 23 1988 09:59 | 14 |

While this is a little off the Amiga path...
I am located in Detroit, Michigan and I first noticed the logos
on the Ferrari cars when the Detroit Grand Prix came to town a couple
of years ago. They use the blue-and-white Digital logo. There is
on across the nose and one on each side of the wing. I was very
surprised as well! A friend of mine that tracks racing closer than
I said that if Ferrari displays the logos that they use the products.
So I guess that means that Ferrari uses DEC equipment somewhere
along the line.

| Yes, it's true. The Digital logo is on the F1 cars. Remember in
the annual report they had some pictures of Ferrari's? That's because
Ferrari is a customer.
For more info see RACERS. (I think it is on ALIEN:: but I could
be mistaken)

1261.4 | Further off the track. | THEONE::PARSONS | Down-under computing... | Mon May 23 1988 21:49 | 3 |
| The Honda plant in Japan has a few Vaxen, but haven't seen our logo
on their cars yet. I heard one rumour that it cost $50,000 per annum
to put those logos on the Ferrari. Regards Guy

1261.5 | DEC is an OFFICIAL SPONSOR of FERRARI | CESARE::ZABOT | Marco Zabot-Adv.Tech.mgr-Turin ACT | Tue May 24 1988 09:04 | 22 |
| Yes, FERRARI is one of our Customer.
But that's just the beginning of the story.
FERRARI belong to FIAT which is one of our larger Customer in Italy,
who recently decided to use ONLY DEC equipment in its shop floors.
Due to the very close and good relations with FIAT and FERRARI
DEC Italy has become SPONSOR of the FERRARI race team. This means
that we PAID some money ( a bit more then just `some' :-) to have
our logo on the cars.
FERRARI uses our VAXes not only in their production. This year
a specially equipped truck is companion of the more popular
red cars. It contains Micro-Vaxes and PDP's which are used to tune
up the cars the days before the race.
DEC Italy has also prepared a set ( 3 ? ) of posters with the
red cars ( one has the skyscrapers of Detroit in the background).
They are actually in reprint ( available RSN :-). Some of them are
visible on some walls in spitbrook. Stickers are available. Mail me
your address and I'll get you one.
