1209.0. "Beware of B.A.D.!" by LEDS::ACCIARDI () Tue Mar 01 1988 10:04

Just thought I'd warn people of a potential problem with a demo
program going around called 'B.A.D.' (Blitz-Amy-Disks).

This program is supposed to re-write the Amiga floppies in a compatible
way such that directory lists and icons come up at blazing speeds.
The demo version I got from PLINK is a crippled demo in that it
only will reformat root directories of bootable disks. The
documentation claims that a full blown commercial version will follow,
as well as a super-fast hard disk backup program.

Well, I made backup copies of a few booting disks that had lots
of stuff in the root directory. I ran B.A.D. on them, and the program
gronked for a few minutes. When the disks were opened from Workbench,
the icons came up faster than my hard disk, and almost as fast as
a RAM: disk or a cached disk.

The only problem is that after I removed the disks and re-inserted
them, the disks were unreadable! Not to fear, I had backup copies,
but I get a bad feeling about B.A.D.

This note is not intended to villify the B.A.D. software, or even
the demo version. I may have just had some bad luck. I haven't
heard any other complaints on PLINK, so maybe I just screwed up
somehow. But a word to the wise; if you decide to try B.A.D., make
sure that you use backup copies.

I too was lured by the promises of B.A.D. and had the same problems.
I also had one disk gronk and never got the system back. I wound
up throwing out the program (B.A.D.) as being too risky.

    mu .02 worth.
