1125.0. "Ami on the tube." by SOFTY::HEFFELFINGER (Give my body to science fiction.) Mon Feb 01 1988 22:05

I saw an interesting TV commercial the other day. It was for a
local bank or savings and loan, or somesuch. Pictured an elderly
woman doing needlepoint or cross-stitch. I don't remember much
about the content of the ad, (probably about IRA's), but what caught
my eye was the end of the ad where teh woman was using DPaint on
her A500 to plan her needlepoint pattern. So nice to see Ami all
    over the place.

1125.1Amiga IS the moviesMEIS::FONSECAI heard it through the Grapevine...Tue Feb 02 1988 12:459
I was pleasently surprised to see a short piece by the Amiga in the 'Computer
Animation Film Festival' movie. Stacked up against much of the
fancy ray-traced commericial stuff done by the likes of Pixar, Appolo,
Symbolics, etc. it was not very impressive technically, but it
was funnier. (In fact it was one of the few pieces which was not
ray-traced, the guy used Aegis Animator.)

At the end the familiar guru meditation message scrolled up, as
a prelude to the credits. This got a good laugh from the audiance.

Notice the guru meditation # ...THX1138, if I remember rightly.

Also the guy who did that Dance of the Stumblers in the animation festival
film was interviewed on NPRadio recently, partly concerning an animated
film he's been working on for years [mostly hand methods of animation]. He
didn't mention the Amiga, other than as a home computer in his bedroom. He
said most animators love to draw, but while he likes drawing OK, he really
loves to make things MOVE, so he loves computer animation.

I think his name is Steve Siegel or Spiegel, and the film he made with some
other guy, starting before Star Wars and ready to show now, is Futuropolis.

Er... not exactly the best place for this, but I hated to start
another thread, and I couldn't think of a better one. On page 99
of the April 18th issue of People magazine, (Yes, and you may *not*
tell anyone else that I have it) there's an article about a Dr. Ohno
who composes music based on the genetic paterns of the creatures
he studies. (Would I lie to you? Hmmmm?) Anyway, pictured in
the background is an Amiga 1000, with one of the music programs
on its screen. (No idea which one. I'm not up on that sort of
    thing.)

Hey. I'd didn't promise you thrills, now did I?

My wife picked up People and I was looking through it when I saw
this article. The music program appears to be Deluxe Music
    Construction Set from Electronic Arts.

I only skimmed the article (the picture was much more interesting).
From the little I read it appeared to be drivel.
