COMMODORE FACES CHARGES
by Paul Weinberg
Special to Computing Canada
-----------------------------------
Agincourt, Ont.-based Commodore Business Machines Ltd. (Canada) is
facing nine charges of violating the federal Combines Investi-
gation Act.
However, it could be several months before the corporation's
lawyers have to attend to Ontario Provincial Court for a prelimi-
nary hearing.
The process has been delayed in the Ontario Supreme Court by
Commodore Canada, which is challenging the May 1983 search and
seizure of Commodore documents on its premises by Combines
investigators.
... a couple of paragraphs dealing with the
Canadian Charter of Rights, the timing of the
seizures, and consequently the legality of the
evidence ... A.G.
Commodore officials have refused to comment on the nine charges
and the appeal. Commodore was formally charged April 1, 1986.
Commodore allegedly provided exclusive volume rebates to both
Sears Canada in the city of Scarborough in 1982, and Zellers Inc.
in the same city in 1983, denied to competitors T.Eaton Co. and
Hudson Bay Company.
The corporation as well gave Atlantic Video and Sound Centre
(Stores) Ltd. in the city of St.Leonard in Montreal and Scarbo-
rough access to a cooperative allowance fund, denied to their
competitors F.W. Woolworth's Co. and Eatons'.
Commodore is further charged with making a misleading statement on
a wrapper regarding the availability of a CP/M operating system
option on its Commodore 64 on or about May 23, 1983.
The last five charges allege Commodore attempted to discourage
dealers from reducing their prices in late 1982 and 1983. The
dealers affected included Jim's TV and Stereo of Pembroke, Ont.,
A&B Sound Ltd of Vancouver, SPEC Electronics Inc. of Ville
D'Anjou, Que., Interactive Computer Systems Ltd. of Fredricton,
N.B. and Crazy Irving's of Dollard-Des-Ormeaux, Que.
----------------------------------------------------------------
The charge regarding the CP/M operating system is interesting -
can anyone think of any unfulfilled promises relating to the
AMIGA!!?? :-)
Another thing - would buy a computer from Crazy Irving?

Grabbit is a screen capture / printing utility SOLD by Discovery
Software (I think thats the company). You load it up and using
various AMIGA-Key combinations can save the current screen to a
file (IFF format) and/or dump the screen to your printer via your
selected Preferences printer.
