1003.0. "Uninvited" by WJG::GUINEAU (W. John Guineau III) Wed Dec 23 1987 09:05

Anyone have Uninvited?

I've been playing this one for awhile (not real intensely but playing)
and have all sorts of neat potions, an amulet keys etc. I still
can't get past that ugly , nasty old lady on the first floor (I've
ravaged the second floor and refuse to be locked in that jail cell
on the third floor again!)

I figure there must be something good behind those 3 doors on the first
floor since that b#tch wont let me in!

The no-ghost potion seems not to help...

You have to select 'operate', then select the no-ghost bottle, then
click on the b*tch. She'll melt like the Wicked Witch of the West.

Now it's my turn :-)

Well, My Uninvited disk went bad a while back, and Mindscape sent me
a new one.

I've gotten back into playing this (they didn't recover my saved game :-( )

So now (even after reading the hints here and in the (gasp) Macintosh notes,
I have some (most probably stupid) questions:

Please spoil me, if even abstractly!

1. In the house, in the bedroom off to the left of the kitchen, there's a
picture on the wall that shifts to the left when you operate the lamp,
and reveals a ghost. Does this ghost conceal something usefull (there's
*something* in that hole he comes out of!) And how do I get by him?

2. I have the 3 elemental cards (mercury, gold and silver) and have watered
the plant in the green house but can't seem to get into the Magisterium.
I've tried putting the cards together, using the plant in unorthordox ways
etc.. I'm going to try some magic incantations again, but how do I get in??

3. I have gotten into the chapel, but can't get out the back door. I assume
I need something to ward off that ghost, but what? ANd where is the "spider
beneath the chapel" I see reference to in the clues? I can only find 2 ways
in/out of the chapel and one is the ghostly path...

4. Where is the garden maze?

John (who certainly feels uninvited now!)

P.S. Did anyone play with the ABOUT menu? It seems like it's just a list of
people who did the game, but if you select oe of the SUBMENU options,
dependng on which, you get some *real* wierd (sample?) sounds played back!
1003.8Some help and another questionBOMBE::MOOREWhere do you go when you're Toad Away?Mon Apr 11 1988 22:5425
    Some hints:

    1. Yes, there is something behind the ghost in the bedroom. It's
probably not essential, but you'll probably find it helpful.
Read carefully the last line of the description of that room.
You need to find something to scare the occupant way...

    2. Sorry, haven't solved this one yet either.

    3. The item you need to get past the chapel ghost can be found
inside the chapel. The spider there is a dead end (very dead!),
but if you don't at least know where it is then you probably
need to look more closely at things in the chapel.

    4. The maze lies beyond the chapel.

    Now, my question...
We still haven't gotten the key from the chair. For whatever reason,
the method of "persuading" the chair eludes us. The "mobile" chair
would seem to be the likely candidate, right? We've tried several
magic phrases, operating various items on it, moving it around, sitting
in it, etc. Maybe someone could narrow it down a little to help
guide us to the solution, i.e. the right chair, method (words, items,
etc.). It's probably something obvious we've just missed. Thanks!

I haven't finished it so I can't help with everything.

    Spoilers follow form feed...

    3. Regarding the back door, the ghost is frightened by something
in the chapel, but you must do something to it first.

A more blatant hint follows the next form feed...

    Use your matches.

Re the spider: Attempt to grab every item in sight, even if it
might be considered blasphemous. If you truly want to see the spider
at this point, then ignore the computer's warnings.

    4. Get through the back door.

That's about the best I can do. Interesting that you can hear sounds
when you select the designers names from the menu. I don't recall
that. My copy is an old one. Got it pretty much when it first
    came out.

Now I feel like I can get just a bit further! Man, I guess I need to
play more games to get this stuff down :-)

When the house door slammed shut behind you, you may have sat in an

The ghost is important, but (sorry!) I can't remember right now
how to beat it. Anyway, it's not a dead end. (A lot of the trouble
in Mindscape games is figuring out the dead ends.)

There's an interestingly shaped niche over the door, as I recall.
Looks like something used to be in there ...

(this is me! I've done *everything* I can think of to that niche, and still
haven't gotten in...John)

The spider is a red herring. Forget it.

Ghosts don't like certain things. Only really bright people can
    figure this one out ;-)

> 4. Where is the garden maze?

    Past the ghost.

On the Mac, you get a whole show - the heads of all the programmers
come out of graves and pop up and down in time to Beethoven's Fifth.
Surprised they didn't duplicate the show on the Amiga.

    Good luck!

Ah ha! All this time we've been molesting the wrong chair...
1003.13"every day a little madder, a little ..."WJG::GUINEAUWed Apr 13 1988 09:1218

Well, thanks to the replies here, I've gotten MUCH further.

I probably should bash my brains a little harder, but:

(trying not to give too much away in my question for those who hate spoilers...)
I have mapped a simple path (zombieless!) into the "heart of the garden maze".
There I find what I need to get into a certian mysterious building on the
outside. There is the strangest creature I have ever seen there :-) guarding
this little gem of an object. I have released (and tried to feed salami to)
some nasty animals in cages, but this guy won't budge... And he won't listen
to reason!

Am I missing something?

John

1003.14WJG::GUINEAUThu Apr 14 1988 21:5720
Finally got the little guy to give up his key.

Now for more questions:

1. Under the LAB, (trap door) seems to be a hard place to get back from!
Is there any reason for going down there?

2. The little gremlins key doesn't fit where I figured it would?

3. How do I get out dracans star and what's that little red one for?

I'm desparate since I can't get real far these days without "becomming
one with the undead..."

Just a couple more spoilers, huh?

John (who's *glad* he doesn't really have a little brother now!)

1003.15Bounce, bounce, bounce...BOMBE::MOOREWhere do you go when you're Toad Away?Tue May 10 1988 21:515
I need a hint to get past the bouncing creature in the maze. We've
tried lots of phrases (he's not listening) and countless objects.
Would some kind soul give us a nudge in the right direction?

    Thanks...
1003.16He's not so tuff!WJG::GUINEAUWed May 11 1988 08:1720

If you get past there, and into the Magisterium, and then below there, let
me know how to finish! I am stuck once again...

Anyway, Having said many a (kind) thing to that *rat*...

As you leave the house to the back yard, you pass through the "trophy room"
There is something there which can hold nasty animals, birds in particular!

Catch the bird in the maze, then give him to that fat bouncing mennace...

This was a NEAT part of the game!!

BTW, if you notice while he's bouncing, he conceals a "peculiar shaped object"
1003.17More magisterium...BOMBE::MOOREWhere do you go when you're Toad Away?Sat May 14 1988 22:5510
Well, we seem to have reached about the same position as .14, at
least we have the *same* unanswered questions.

We have an idea about the significance of the place under the lab,
but I think we need to remove the star from its box first...?

Still can't get the third door in the Magisterium to open. 8^(
We have the gremlin's key and don't know where to use it.

The "experiment" in the lab isn't important, is it?

I gave up playing the game ages ago (or were it months) without
ever finnishing and a week ago I picked it up where I left.

Your notes have helped me a lot but I still don't know how to get
the key from the little running gremlin and what it is used for!

I tried to find the Mac-notes mentioned in repl.3 but they don't
    seem to be there anymore.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Inside the Magisterium (I think) there is a jar of cookies. The little bugger
just loves 'em...
