952.0. "Work around Smokey Iconify problem!!" by HPSTEK::SENNA () Mon Dec 07 1987 14:10

I have been transfering alot of files to my Amanda 500 and have
had problems with smokey when I icon (this is a known problem). As
a matter of fact the only one I've come across. I have since found
a way to get around it and have the ability to watch the tranfer
activity and something else in the Popcli.

What I do is set LINES 48 in my init file (doesn't work otherwise).
When smokey comes on, click left mouse key at top of screen and
pull down. It will only move a quarter of an inch but far enough
to get to the window in back. CLick on this peeping window and you
can pull the smokey window down and have access to other windows.
Some may not like the small print, but I don't mind and like having
    48 lines!

That works in 24 line mode, too, Tom. Try it again.

You can also just "click" on the screen window. BUT make sure you
have smokey (or vt100) make a custom screen...I use wkeys (in the
arc area, and a great little addition which allows keys to flip
screens/windows, etc) to flip screens, etc...now I can't watch whats
going on without a "flip", but...

(also, I set up popcli to spawn the window starting at pixel 1
NOT 0 in the Y...this allows the cursor to get to the screen gadgets
even when I have a full shell window up...)

by the way, since making shell my default CLI environment, and making
popcli put up a shell window!, I'm a happy puppy!
