I saved all of them as SMUS files, (DMCS uses its on, non-documented,
proprietary IFF format ;-( I haven't seen any good PD

Has ANYONE found a good player program...

944.3 | xlate to smus?? ONLY if demand for it | MVCAD3::BAEDER | | Fri Dec 04 1987 17:11 | 3 |
| p.s. I guess if there is a big demand, I can try to mess around
with making them into SMUS files, but I don't think they would xlate
very well...

944.7 | Instruments up please ? | PUERTO::ALVAREZ | Miguel,from sunny Puerto Rico | Tue Dec 08 1987 18:16 | 5 |
| I too would like you to upload the Instruments. With some songs,
when I load them DMCS will tell me that not all instruments have
been loaded. And thanks for uploading the songs !

944.8 | Use zap to see what you need... | MVCAD3::BAEDER | | Tue Dec 08 1987 19:23 | 16 |
| just a quickie update...the instruments for 1812 are in the arc
file for it (sorry about that...) as for the others, some are the
EA instruments from the Rock&roll or Instant Music disks, and are
NOT PD.
BUT...to see what they are, use your favorite ZAP editor (arc online??)
and look at the end of the file....this is where dmcs keeps the
"IFF" records stating the instruments...
minor FLAME
the IFF standard doesn't include dmcs exactly, but it says that
if a player can't find an instrument, make its best guess. It should
at least tell you what its looking for, and allow you to substitute!!!

| Re. .8
Thanks for the tip !
I used NewZap on those songs with the "missing instrument" problem
and found some instruments in my Instant Music disk. Another way
to do it, if you don't have an instrument, is to copy and rename
another instrument to what the song expects. You might not get the
best results, but at least it's a better solution than hearing nothing
at all.

Re.6 I'd upload it if I had it. Aren't DMCS files SMUS files?
|
944.12 | nope, dmcs <> smus | MVCAD3::BAEDER | | Thu Dec 10 1987 16:29 | 10 |
| nope...dmcs can save music in smus, but the default is their own
format...and in smus, you loose a lot of the measure size, ability
to change instruments, etc...
sorry...dmcs is dmcs...as bad as it is at time, it seems to be the
best at making "sheet" quality music...
still looking for something better...

944.13 | Sonix Player anyone? | LEDS::ACCIARDI | | Thu Dec 10 1987 16:44 | 10 |
| Speaking of music, is anyone interested in a PD Sonix song player?
There are some FANTASTIC Sonix scores in the public domain. The
author, Mark Riley, has written a PD player. It will batch several
songs, jukebox fashion.
I can upload it directly to Scott's uVax, if he has opened up write
priveleges to the public.

944.14 | Yes, please do! | KIRK::KYZIVAT | Paul Kyzivat | Thu Dec 10 1987 17:29 | 8 |
| Re .13
I'm interested if both player and songs are available. I have instant music,
but it leaves a lot to be desired as a player, and I'm not talented enough at
music to create some even with it. It would be nice to have a way to play
available music, but I'm not about to buy DMCS just to use as a player.

944.15 | sonix can't play DMCS songs... | MVCAD3::BAEDER | | Thu Dec 10 1987 18:09 | 8 |
| if you see one or two you might like in smus form, let me know...
again, sonix == smus, so even the pd player is not going to help
on dmcs files...but....thats life...I just wish the music/sound
area had 50% the activity in the video/annimation field...

I have a whole disk full of sonix files but I don't have a player
(real smart eh?) The two smus players I have don't account for Sonix's
.instr files. Please upload the JukeBox.
I'd be glad to upload the sonix files.
