938.1 | ignore ARC crc error... | MVCAD3::BAEDER | | Thu Dec 03 1987 01:04 | 8 |
| sorry, forgot to mention that ARC will give a crc error on the last
file (tt???.fra)...this is due to the over-zealous chop on vt200,
but didnt seem to hurt things, so just ignore it...
let me know how anyone likes it, etc...

938.2 | | PLDVAX::SMCAFEE | Steve McAfee | Fri Dec 04 1987 10:14 | 14 |

Nice program. I like the added features. I seemed to notice a
little difficulty sometimes making turns, but it was consistent
so I suppose that is part of the game (or maybe my joystick).
The sounds are different than ARCADE Pacman. They sound like
they were synthesized. Is it possible to have it start up with
the sounds activated in the menu?
I almost managed to get through 3 of the 5 screens on the first layer.
Thanks for the upload.
regards,
steve mcafee

938.4 | Turn on via menu...don't think can default to ON | MVCAD3::BAEDER | | Fri Dec 04 1987 17:02 | 10 |
| did you "turn it on"...again, I don't think you can make the default
be on, but I didn't look too close at the doc file...
(to turn it on, use the menu function...if still have no sound,
I give up)
Glad you like it...

938.6 | Pacman not HUNGRY!! | HPSTEK::SENNA | | Mon Dec 07 1987 11:59 | 18 |

RE: .5
I downloaded it with no problems. I read in other notes how to do
it. Its best to follow the instructions EXACTLY.
1. CVTARC :== $disk:[directory of cvtarc.exe]CVTARC.EXE
2. CVTARC V PACMAN.ARC ! MAKES NEW VERSION ONE RECORD
SIZE
3. @KERMIT
4. KERMIT-32>>SET FILE TYPE BINARY
5. SEND PACMAN.ARC
6. set directory on Amiga (faster if RAM:)
7. set kermit recieve on the Amiga
8. perform arc x on the file
9. eat ghosts!!
I hope this helps!

938.7 | worked fine for me | FIGS::BANKS | In Search of Mediocrity | Mon Dec 07 1987 13:36 | 19 |
| I used the Kermit in WeckerTerm V2.{pretty old}.
1. Copy PACMAN.ARC from wherever it was posted
2. RUN KERMIT
3. KERMIT>SET FILE TYPE BINARY
4. KERMIT>SERVER
5. Select file type "Image" menu item on WeckerTerm
6. Select "Kermit Get" on the download menu
7. Type "PACMAN.ARC" to the prompt
8. Wait a REAL LONG TIME
9. Log off
10. ARC X PACMAN.ARC
11. EXECUTE REN
12. Kill off everything else I have running (this is a 512k system,
after all)
13. Eat ghosts.
In other words, no trouble at all, except for the amount of time
it took to download it.

938.8 | Remember to ignore arc error on last file | MVCAD3::BAEDER | | Mon Dec 07 1987 23:20 | 10 |
| sorry you (re. -?) are having some trouble, since it is long...don't
forget, there may be an error in arc on the last file (at least
there was for me when I DL'd from Genie, so ignore it, doesn't seem
to matter...
Also dont forget to make sure you are set to image mode on the
vt100/200 side of things ie binary files!...(step #5 in .7)
good luck on ghost eating...scott.

938.9 | Scrambled sprites. | SOFTY::HEFFELFINGER | Give my body to science fiction. | Wed Dec 09 1987 22:27 | 20 |
| This has been said in other places, but I thought I'd say it here.
I made the mistake of copying a system-configuration file from one
WB disk to the one I created for Pacman. Pacman's startup requires
an eighty column screen to correctly display the shareware warnings.
I didn't feel like copying preferences to the PM disk so I just
copied the system-configuration file. I had evidently used the
centering gadget in preferences when creating this config file,
so the screen was not set to the default position. It is known
that if your screen is not pushed towards the right side of the
screen, sprite images can get scrambled. This is what happened
to me. I just wanted to let new Amigans know that if you have
scrambled sprites on your screen, try using preferences to move
your screen to the right.
Gary
BTW, thanks for the upload Scott. You didn't, by any chance, go
to Furman University, did you? I recall that there was a Scott
Baeder at Furman when I was there.
