Hi... I just bought a CTS2424 adh modem for 299 to replace my Scholar. Does any body else out there have this beast? It has an incredible command set. Let me tell ya' you can do anything with this baby...but, here's a problem. I have a cable with pins 1-8 and 20 connected to my Amiga. For some reason, when I dial anywhere, it just says no carrier. Also, it drops carrier on the local analog loop mode along with loads of garbage. It did the same on my Decmate III. If anybody has this sucker, can you give me a hand? (yes I know that you're all thinking what did he buy a cts when he had a scholar for? I've had a total of 4 shortouts on the part of the scholar. Must have been an early model :-) HELP!

I had the same problem with one of my modems. The Amiga can raise or lower DTR (pin 20) at will depending on application/software through the 8520 chip. A way around this would be, on your MODEM cable ONLY, connect pin 9 from the SER: port to pin 20 of the modem. This in effect gives you DTR all the time. An easier way would be to force DTR from within the modem. The manufacturer usually provides this option on most modems. You need DTR to set off and maintain the initial connect handshake. Hope this helps... Let us know how you make out.. -john-

Ill give it a shot. Does DTR determine whether or not you can pick up carrier? thanks,

Essentially, you need Terminal Ready (DTR) to be able to generate Carrier Detect (pin 8). The modem uses this internally to establish and keep the connection as well as some software packages. -john- |
