I bought Dark Castle for the Amiga. It is an arcade type adventure game (requires good hand-eye coordination and some manual dexterity). This is a very good port from the Macintosh version. It is in color, uses stereo sound, and plays much the same as the Mac version. It is 2 disks with the first copy protected and I had problems with my first set. It was the last one in the store so I called Three-Sixty Pacific directly and they Federal Expressed me another copy immediately. I hadn't even sent in my registration card yet! The high-score file is on the first disk and so it must be write-enabled if you want to record your progress. After my first experience, I have been running with the protected disk write-protected and the game gracefully continues. I talked to Three-Sixty about this and they are attempting to resolve this problem. I highly recommend this game. I also think that Three-Sixty Pacific, Inc. will be an excellent addition to the Amiga community.

Exactly what type of arcade game is this? Is it a bang-bang shoot-em up like Space Invaders or Galaxian or Asteroids. Or is it an arcade game like a moving 3d adventure game ? I have noticed that there are very few of the old style arcade games for the amiga and it surprises me because I would think that these would be the easiest to program and would, by thier simplicity be the fastest and most arcade like. I am interested in any specific info you could give me about this or any other arcade style game. Thank you for you're support

I'd describe it as a "Donkey Kong" type game. There are 4 doors on the initial screen which each contain 3-4 levels (maybe more, I've only completed 2 of the four). The hero (you) throws rocks at your adversaries (bats, mice, guards with arrows, gremlins, vultures) and will have at least one unique puzzle to solve in each screen set. Bags of rocks and elixirs (for rat and bat bites) are scattered along the way to replenish your supplies. You can move right & left, up & down (stairs or ropes), jump & duck and have a "do it" key for all other special effects. The graphics are good, the stereo sound-effects are great, and there are other subtleties about the game which make it entertaining.

Has anyone ever been able to back up disk one of Dark Castle? This really makes me nervous since it accesses the disk fairly often. Also, has anyone been able to get this to work out of RAM: ? I tried putting disk two into RAM: and Assigning DC2: to RAM: but it guru'd when it needed to access the disk. Not a bad game, but I really hate the long delays between screens. - steve

Marauder II with brain file #9 will back it up. Sorry, I don't remember which option settings I used. Verify ON for sure. |
