897.0. "A1000 TRADE ins ???" by USFHSL::SPATOULAS () Fri Nov 13 1987 15:31

Any A2000 users out there ??

Did you trade your A1000 ???

I have keeping close eye on the trade in rummors. Initially it
was $500-$600, now it is A1000+$1000. But by the time you add up
a hard disk and a MS-DOS card you are over $2000 why not buy a ATclone
    for $2000 ???.

I have an A1000 and do not know if I should wait untill after christmas
Does anybody know of any cheaper dealers that $1000 ??

    Thanks

    George

    i'm a A2000 & A1000 user.

The official policy from Commodore is that you give your A1000 and
$1000 to the dealer, he gives you an A2000.

The rumors are simply dealer implementations of that deal. The
dealer only has to send in the serial number from the A1000 and
the $1000 to Commodore. His profit on the deal is the how much
he can sell your A1000 for.

A number of dealers have been getting very creative with the
implementation. CBM wants to encourage self motivated dealers
so they haven't been doing anything to stop that. Omnitek in
Tewksbury Mass is doing the trade in for $800. I did that and
also "bought back" my A1000 for $400. I figure that makes it
    $1200 for a new A2000.

    p.s. why buy the MS-DOS board? I don't want a clone, i just
wanted a rf shielded Amiga slot box with optional future MS-DOS AT
clone potential. And a full keypad for EDT emulation. And a meg
    of memory.

775.14 and up talks about best deal I've seen - $1050 + serial number
    = a2000.

Also remember the official trade-in policy ends November 30th.
I haven't heard anything about it being extended beyond that yet.

I suspect that after the trade in period expires, CBM will start
lowering the price on the A2000.

I suspect that the price will not be lowered until stores can keep
the machines on the shelf for more than a week :-).

I was told by a local dealer on November 30, 1987 that the deal
had been extended by CBM until "the end of the year" = December
    31, 1987.
