896.0. "Digi-Tek (ala Digi-F/X) Demo" by WINERY::COLLUM () Thu Nov 12 1987 14:42

    Just went by my local dealer. They just received DigiTek's new demo.
    It is an EXTREMELY professional demo of Digi-View, Digi-Paint and
    .... DIGI-F/X!! It takes up 2 disks. They should have copies of
    it available by this afternoon. I'm picking up a set and will try
    to get it uploaded. What is the current procedure for getting actual
    disk image copies online (so that directory structures are preserved)?

    re #-1:
    	replace all Digi-Tek references with New-Tek (you know what
    I meant)

    Just got the disks. GREAT DEMO!!! (Maxine headroom is only part
    of it)
    The problem is this: The demo sits on 2 disks, each is 99% full
    when info'ed, each with subdirectories. I have the room on my system,
    I have the time to upload them. What I lack is an *easy* way of
    doing it. Is there a utility that will save the structure of the
    disk and throw it into an arc-like file (ie compressed!)? I have
    2.5 M of memory and 2 drives (No hard drive yet :^( ). If there
    isn't one, then it'll take just a little bit longer to throw every
    directory into an arc file, all the little arcs into a big one and
    a command procedure to unbundle the whole thing.

    			Any ideas?

    					Jim

    P.S. Whenever they come out with Digi-F/X, I'm buying it!!!

896.2TRACKERLEDS::ACCIARDIThu Nov 12 1987 21:045
    TRACKER will transfer an entire disk with it's structure intact.
    Anyone have it on the E-net?

896.3TRACKER and PACK-IT AvailableOASIS2::BERNARDHave Gun - Will TravelThu Nov 12 1987 21:5617
TRACKER is available on  OASIS2""::HSC000$DUA7:[BERNARD.AMIGA]TRACKER.ARC

I de-arced it to provide the documentation.

I also have another utility stored in this directory called PACK-IT.ARC.
PACK-IT is also supposed to maintain the directory structure. I also de-arced
this file to provide the .DOC on line.

Enjoy...

John

    you may want to talk to steve peters (elwood::) about the way he
    is putting some of the fish disks on-line here on mvcad3...we have
    (for now) plenty of space, and I'm willing to put other arc files
    here as well...

896.5FT1 of the first disk availableWINERY::COLLUMFri Nov 13 1987 11:5352
Thanks for all the help! Last night I used TRACKER to break
up the first of the disks into files, each containing 10
tracks. I then combined them into 2 arc files,

	WINERY::USER3$:[COLLUM]DEMO1A.ARC

Name          Length    Date
============  ========  =========
track0.1        116174  29 Nov 86
track1.1        116174  29 Nov 86
track2.1        116174  29 Nov 86
track3.1        116174  29 Nov 86
        ====  ========
Total      4    464696

	WINERY::USER3$:[COLLUM]DEMO1B.ARC

Name          Length    Date
============  ========  =========
track4.1        116174  29 Nov 86
track5.1        116174  29 Nov 86
track6.1        116174  29 Nov 86
track7.1        116174  29 Nov 86
        ====  ========
Total      4    464696

You will need to use TRACKER to restore these files to a disk.
The location can be found in on of the previous replys.

Tracks		File
0-9		track0.1
10-19		track1.1
20-29		track2.1
30-39		track3.1
40-49		track4.1
50-59		track5.1
60-69		track6.1
70-79		track7.1

I haven't tested this procedure yet. Tonight I'm going to
do the other disk in the pair. I'm letting you know where
the first disk is for those brave souls who might want to
get this first disk ASAP. (To those brave souls, if you
should download it and unpack it, could you post whether
or not it worked). I'll be testing the whole procedure after
the second disk has been uploaded.

				Thanks

896.6It worked for mePUERTO::ALVAREZMiguel,from sunny Puerto RicoSun Nov 15 1987 19:3013
    I downloaded , de-arced and de-tracked (?) demo1a.arc. Tried to
    run and a few images appeared (MAXINE , i think), until it asked
    to insert data disk, which I assume is the disk you're going to
    upload next.

     Thanks a lot Jim, for making this available ! I live far-away from
    the local dealer, mail takes a week to get here from the States,
    there are no users group around, but people like you make me enjoy
    my AMIGA much more. Thanks again !

    P.S. When are you going to upload the next disk ? I can't wait !!!!

    try it in stereo, it has 4 voices saying "NewTek".
    Worked great for me too. And asked for the data disk.

    Thanks for uploading it,

Well, the last two arc files (these comprise the data disk for the demo)
can now be found at :

Copy these files, de-arc them, de-track them to a disk, put this disk in
your second drive (WHAT!!! you don't have a second drive??..This is as good
a reason to buy one as any). Put the first disk in drive 0 and boot.

Sorry for the delay, we're in the middle of buying a house and a persons
priorities can really get screwed up during this (What do you mean I
have to sign loan papers!!! I need to upload this demo... This argument
just doesn't seem to work anymore... maybe i'm getting old)

					Good luck!

    I don't seem to have a problem getting to winery ;^)
    I haven't been able to get to this conference for about a week.
    An area router may have gone down or something.
    Winery is a cluster alias. Some of the nodes in the cluster are:
    Brgndy
    Lrgfmt (my system)
    We just went through an Area split out here, so indivdual network
    databases may have not been updated. The files are still where
    they used to be. Sorry for the inconvience.
