What color printer drivers exist to drive a dot matrix, color ink jet, 180dpi printer, using HP-PCL protocol? DEC just came out with a color ink jet printer (LJ250/LJ252) with a list price of $1,695. I believe the driver for a HP PaintJet (HP3630A) would/should work. Does one of these drivers exist? The printer is called a Companion Color Printer, is about the size of an LA210, uses only one 3-color ink cartridge, and comes in serial and parallel. I have one on order and it should arrive mid November. If there is any interest, I'll post my trials and tribulations with this beast.

At $1190 I'm not sure this is your best buy. The price of
a Xerox 4020 inkjet is near the same ( $1200 ). The Xerox also
includes a special printing program that is better and faster
than using Amigados as well as a standard AMIGA printer driver.

Let's change this to: "New COLOR Printer*s*"...
Has anyone seen the new Star NX1000R? It's splattered throughout
the pages of the May '88 Computer Shopper. Dot matrix, supposed
to print 7 colors, and is priced _below_ $249 by most of the mail
order houses...
Just wondering if anyone has seen output from this printer (what the
graphics quality was like, quality of NLQ mode, overall impression)
from seeing it in any local shops. Also would like to find out what
type of ribbon it uses (regular inked, nylon (1 pass use?), or multiple
strike membrane, etc.)
If I can dig up more info on this printer I'll post it if anyone
else is interested...

In case anyone's interested, I did manage to get some more information
on the NX1000R ("Rainbow"). Apparently it uses a normal inked fabric
ribbon. Its text printing quality is very good, but I've heard
criticism of its color printing: the Okimate 20 was thought to give
much better color output. The Rainbow's colors don't print with
nearly enough saturation (this is hearsay, I haven't seen its output
yet.) But the Oki only gives about 17 pages of output per ~$8.00
ribbon. More news as it arrives.
