I have seen several adds for A500 expansion products. I would like to expand my 500 with more memory and a hard disk. It seems like there are three major products out there that will do this. Phoenix Electronics PHD-500 20/40 meg hard drive (don't know about memory) Supra Corp A500 hard drive/memory add on box and disk Expansion technologies A500 expansion box w/2-4 meg. & hard disk Supra looks pretty good but seems to add quite a bit of width to the 500. Expansion Tech box sits on top of the 500 and also acts as a monitor stand. I dont know anything about the Phoenix hardware except it adds on like the Supra but also contains the drive. Anyone have any experience/details on this stuff? Opinions? Help???!!!! I'm leaning toward the Supra (if they ever come out with the A500 adaptor)... John

Well, I was impatient and calles Supra direct to see what the story was... Talked to one of the engs (Mark?) and got the following... Target release of the A500 expansion is within 2 weeks. (sounds familiar...) The interface will consist of a SCSI interface and hard drive. There is add-on memory options available. Currently have a 1 meg board. They are hoping to release a 2 and 4 meg board before Dec. Prices A500 expansion box, SCSI interface, w/20 meg drive $995 A500 expansion box, SCSI interface, w/30 meg drive $1195 A500 expansion box, SCSI interface, w/60 meg drive $1995 1 meg memory board $399 2 meg memory board (Dec.) $599 4 meg " " ???? They are cautious around the 4 meg memory board due to the power limitations of the A500 power supply. Sounds like with any expansion, it would make sense to get the heavy duty power supply from Phoenix. All the prices are suggested list. I would imagine $100 or so could be saved at your local dealer (Software Shop seems to have the best prices here in Mass.. Anybody have an idea what Moe is thinking of asking for this?) John | |||||
