Since I can only download with Xmodem, why is it that Variable length arc files come out 4 times as short as they should be. Its an awful pain to extract all those files if Arend.arc. Does somebody have a file type converter?

Look for CVTARC.EXE in either PAULY"AMIGA"::, or Dave Weckers public area. I'm not sure of the syntax on how to use it. It won't run on our machine (8600, using VMS 4.5. Anybody know why? The stack blows up) It is a VMS program, so you run it on your vax, then copy the stuff down to your amiga. Rob
846.3 | bugs fixed in cvtc bugs have been fixed | MPGS::BAEDER | Sat Oct 24 1987 12:25 | 15
it may be because of some minor bugs in the version your using...I have fixed it, and its available in mvcad3::user0:[amiga.tools] again...we have covered this many times, but in the interest of low flame levels.... cvtarc U file.in file.out will convert a 510 var, or a 128 fixed length file to stream_lf (Unix or C) format...suitable for XMODEM.... cvtarc V file.in file.out will convert it to 510 var (VMS) records, suitable for use by kermit.... the vms version of arc only works with the stream_lf files.
