| Not that I know of...
But, there is a utility called MACVIEW that takes MacPaint files
and turns them into IFF files or turns IFF files into MacPaint files.
It will display both kinds of files and print both kinds.
It works. I've used it several times to convert images to MacPaint
format for uploading to other systems for viewing.
As for reading disks...I don't know. I think that there was a problem
with the Mac having variable speed on their drives and the Amiga
being fixed. That was one of the holdups with Magic Sac for the
Amiga.

There are rumors that people are working on it, but Mac drives are pretty
freaky. Nothing has been announced about it.
By the way, I don't think this is holding up the Magic Sack for the Amiga.
The ST Magic Sack was first released without being able to read Mac disks.
Although I have heard that a new version has just been released that can
read Mac disks using a small about of additional hardware connected between
an ST and its disks.

| What about an Apple IIe. Is there anythng that would allow an Amiga
text disk to be read on an Apple IIe (or c)? Sure would save the
cost of a new printer for an Amiga.

| There a commercial program call Fruit Friend that lets you
read/write Apple II disks, I believe. I'll check, it was
a small ad in Amazing computing a while ago. Haven't seen
it recently.

John, what type of printer was it? I have an opportunity to use
an ImageWriter color printer. It is currently hooked up to a
Apple IIG ( at least I believe its a IIg ). It would be great if
I could hook it up straight to the Amiga. Anyone have any input
on this?
Thanks

I think that there is even a printer driver for the Imagewriter on
the workbench disk.

| Will the A500 support a serial printer? The Imagewriter is serial.
I'm curious about the reply mentioning Imagewriter support by Workbench.

839.10 | | BAGELS::BRANNON | Dave Brannon | Sun Sep 18 1988 02:27 | 13 |
| the Preferences program on the Workbench disk allows you to select
the serial or parallel port for your printer. Just click on the
change printer gadget, that will get you to the printer window,
and then just click on the Serial gadget. Then click on the arrow
keys to select the ImagewriterII printer driver. Click on the OK,
that gets you back to the first window, then click on SAVE.
That will write a new devs/system-configuration file containing
your new preferences. Any reference to the device PRT: will go
thru the printer driver. You can also access the serial port
and parallel ports directly, thru SER: and PAR:.

839.11 | ..don't have to buy a new printer | GUCCI::HERB | AL | Sun Sep 18 1988 22:21 | 12 |
| Thanks for the info. When I asked the question, I was shopping for
our Amiga. Saturday, I bought it (A500).
This is good news. I really like the Imagewriter printer. Had an
IW1 for several years and bought an IWII with my Apple IIe. It's
expensive but almost industructable. Between the 2 printers, I've
done nothing but change ribbons since 1983 (and you can use your
old LA50/75 ribbons then).
I'm considering now an AB switch so that I can share the Imagewriter
between my son's Amiga and my Apple IIe. Wish I would have though
about this wehn I bought an internal modem for my IIe.

Getting back to last year's version of this topic, where can I get MACVIEW or
something else -- the goal being to play with graphics at home and be able to
make some of them usable for Macintosh [monochrome] desktop publishing [or
even to show off on color Mac II]? This means Macpaint files, or .TIFF, .PICT
or .EPSF files on the Mac.
Multi-tasking the Mac way -- it could take your whole desk!
[one Mac per task; isn't it economical?]
