To whom it may concern, I recently purchased an AMIGA 2000, I have not yet registered on note #3 because I have yet to recieve all my hardware. However I do have a modem and a connection to work, and I am going to attempt to begin downloading and de-arcing files. Since I have read with some alarm the problems that others have experienced with this function I would like to start with a small file which would not take to long to download and de-arc in order to practice. What I need is a small .ARC file which will have all the basic elements of an .ARC file. If anyone knows of or can easily create such a file I would be gratefull. A novice Amiga user. (DDT)

Try LEDS3::USER6:[ACCIARDI.AMIGA]DISKMAN.ARC for starters. Its only 48 VMS blocks, and a very handy utility to start with. Ed.

or use the vms or ultrix version to create your own...just be sure to check the following.... file type (records) - fixed 128 byte records work with the vms version of arc, and with xmodem , but NOT kermit.... file type of 510 byte var records work with kermit, but NOT vms/ultrix ARC. convert between the two types of files with CVTARC... also be sure to switch to binary transfer mode!...(and read all the many discussions similar to this...;-) in any case...enjoy the world of AMIGA!
823.3 | Kermit workable on 128-byte record .ARC files | SAUTER::SAUTER | John Sauter | Tue Oct 20 1987 08:07 | 5 |
I used Kermit to transfer some .ARC files that were 128 bytes per record. ARC on the Amiga complained about a garbage "header" after the files in the archive, but it extracted the files that were there OK. John Sauter |
