787.0. "Upgrading the memory add-on?" by COOKIE::WITHERS (Same Sow, Same Ear, Same Silk, Same Purse) Fri Oct 09 1987 18:54

Has anyone thought of upgrading the "memory add-on" board that raises
the A1000 from 256k to 512k by replacing the current chips with
bigger ones? Can it be done? Any idea what types of chips you'd
need if you were willing to face the desoldering job?

This has come up before. Unfortunately there aren't enough address
lines sent to the front of the machine. Remember this extra 256K is
chip RAM (accessible by the Amiga custom chips) and the custom chips
    themselves can only access 512K.

If the thought of a memory box on the expansion buss is distasteful,
there are several plug-in internal memory boards available for the
    A1000, and now the A500.

Spirit Technologies makes a 1.5 meg internal board for the 1000
and 500. Spirit uses the lower power SIMM chips, which also take
    up less real estate.
